Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has tipped Anthony Joshua to defeat Tyson Fury if the long-discussed heavyweight showdown finally takes place.

Usyk made the remarks during a press conference ahead of his WBC title defence against Rico Verhoeven, scheduled for May 23, 2026, at the iconic Pyramids of Giza.

Having faced both Joshua and Fury twice, the Ukrainian holds a unique perspective on the matchup.

When asked about the potential clash, Usyk initially downplayed his involvement.

“If Tyson Fury fights AJ, I stay back and watch as a fan,” he said.

Pressed further on who would come out on top, he gave a firm response.

“AJ wins. It’s future and the beauty champion, you know?” he stated.

His answer drew immediate attention inside the room, especially given his direct experience against both fighters at the highest level.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn reacted with amusement when asked about Usyk’s prediction.

“Amazing. Yeah, the table nearly flew off,” he said, highlighting the buzz created by the comment.

While the exchange quickly became a talking point, the focus remains on Usyk’s upcoming bout.

The undefeated champion, boasting a 23-0 record with 14 knockouts, is preparing to face Verhoeven in a high-profile event set to stream on DAZN.
