Yirenkyi strikes as Black Stars earn hard-fought draw against Wales

The senior men's football national team, the Black Stars, shared the spoils in their pre-World Cup friendly against Wales on June 2, 2026, at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The game ended with both the Black Stars and the Wales national team, the Dragons, scoring a goal each.

The first half of the game ended goalless, with Wales dominating the game and creating numerous chances through former Manchester United winger Daniel James.

Goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi was the best player for the Black Stars in the first half, making wonderful saves to keep the game goalless.

Right-back Marvin Senaya came close for the Stars with a volley from outside the box, which was saved by Wales goalkeeper Darlow.

The Stars took the lead in the second half of the game with a goal from substitute Caleb Yirenkyi in the 67th minute.

Forward Ernest Nuamah, who came on in the second half, burst through Wales' defence and forced a fine diving stop from Darlow, but Yirenkyi was on hand to nudge the ball home.

Wales got an equaliser in the 93rd minute with a diving header from substitute forward Luis Koumas.

The Black Stars will now face Jamaica in their last friendly, which will be behind closed doors, before their first game at the World Cup.
