Black Stars skipper, Jordan Ayew has asserted that he is not disturbed by continuous criticisms of his style of play at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The captain has faced backlash on social media after some Black Stars group-stage games, with many fans concerned about his lack of sharpness and slow movement.

Others have raised concerns about his indecisive ball control and inability to track back and pressure opponents, arguing that these issues have affected the team’s performances and calling for him to be benched.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanaian journalist Gary Al-Smith, Ayew described the consistent criticisms as “tiring,” noting that he is often singled out.

He explained that he plays according to instructions issued by head coach Carlos Queiroz, rather than making his own decisions with the ball.

"When I asked Jordan Ayew about people (including me) saying his contribution in certain games has not been great, he doesn’t release the ball, etc, he laughed and said: ‘It’s getting tiring, isn’t it?’ He went on to say he doesn’t think about records being set or about such criticisms. He only gives his best according to each coach’s instructions, "Gary Al-Smith shared on his X page.

The Black Stars enter the game determined to secure victory and qualification, having collected four points from three matches: a 1-0 win over Panama, a 0-0 draw against England, and a 2-1 loss to Croatia.

Meanwhile, Colombia come into the clash as a formidable side following their impressive group-stage performances. They recorded dominant wins over DR Congo and Uzbekistan before drawing 0-0 with Portugal.

The game is expected to be fiercely contested, with both sides eager to progress. The winner will face either Switzerland or Algeria in the Round of 16 on July 7, 2026.
