Norway made history by securing qualification to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after their 2-1 win over Brazil on July 5.
The game began with the Seleção creating several chances in the first half but failing to convert, including Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães’ missed penalty.
After the break, Norway gained more control of the game and capitalized on it to score the opener, a header from Erling Braut Haaland.

Norway maintained their momentum as Sander Berge and Martin Ødegaard pressed for more goals, and Haaland added his second with a brilliant strike from outside the box.
In the dying minutes of the game, Brazil won a penalty, which Neymar Jr converted to make it 2-1 at full time.
The MetLife Stadium was buzzing with Brazilian fans who had come to cheer their team, but the atmosphere ended in disappointment.
After the game, the Seleção squad showed appreciation to their supporters for traveling and standing by them through difficult moments.
Meanwhile, it was all joy and celebrations for the Norwegian fans, who were thrilled with the team’s achievement and looked forward to the next fixture.
Norway will face England in the quarter-final stage of the competition on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
