The countdown to the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has officially begun for Ghana.
Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has named a 27-player provisional squad for the tournament in Morocco, blending experienced internationals with emerging talents as preparations gather pace.
Captain Portia Boakye headlines the squad alongside established stars Grace Asantewaa, Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu, Jennifer Cudjoe, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, Princess Marfo, Stella Nyamekye and Princella Adubea, all of whom are expected to play key roles in Ghana's quest for continental success.

The provisional squad also rewards impressive performances in the Ghana Women's Premier League. FC Samartex Ladies goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan Fiindib, Jonina Ladies midfielder Osman Huzeima and Ampem Darkoa Ladies forward Ajegipina Zakaria have all earned call-ups, highlighting the growing impact of the domestic league on the national team.
The Black Queens are expected to resume camping in the coming days before travelling to Morocco for the tournament.
Ghana have been drawn in Group D, where they will open their campaign against Cape Verde on July 29 before facing Cameroon on August 2 and Mali on August 6. All three matches will be played at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.
With a balanced squad taking shape, Björkegren will be hoping his side can end Ghana's long wait for a deep run at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations and make a strong statement on the continental stage.
