Divine Lunga plays for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa
Zimbabwean footballer, Divine Lunga, was involved in a gun attack in Johannesburg, South Africa, while driving through the city.
According to South African police, as reported by the BBC, the player was driving in the inner-city suburb of Hillbrow when unknown gunmen opened fire on his car.
It was reported that the suspects mistook the footballer for an undercover police officer.

Fortunately, the incident did not result in any fatalities, as the Zimbabwe national team defender managed to escape unharmed and was safely escorted home.
Police spokesperson, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, confirmed that they were investigating a case of attempted murder, though no arrests had been made.
She did not provide further details but South African publication The Citizen reported that Lunga was on his way to church with his younger brother when they came under attack.
Lunga has played 21 games for the Zimbabwe national team and was part of the squad that participated in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The defender has also helped South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns clinch four domestic league titles, as well as, their second African Champions League in May.
In response to the news, the Zimbabwe national team posted an image of the player on social media with the caption “In God we trust” alongside his name, showing him in a prayer position.
Sundowns are yet to publicly comment on the incident, as investigations continue to identify the culprits.
