GFA President Kurt Okraku and ex-footballer Charles Taylor
Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Frederick Acheampong, also known as Fred Achie, has clarified that ex-footballer Charles Taylor financed his own travel to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former Asante Kotoko striker had complained that he was stranded in the US and accused the GFA of failing to come to his aid, claiming they were involved in his travel arrangements.
In response, Acheampong explained that GFA President Kurt Okraku only facilitated the visa process for Taylor and other ex-footballers who traveled to watch the World Cup.

Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, Fred Achie expressed disappointment in Taylor’s comments, stressing that the GFA president is not responsible for his current situation.
"He had a conversation with me and Kofi Boadi, and afterwards I heard that the GFA President helped Charles Taylor, Dan Quaye, and a few others. The president told me he facilitated their US visas. Taylor booked his flight ticket himself, not the president. So, I’m wondering why he said Kurt has left him stranded in the US. How do you expect the president to help you?" he asked.
The GFA ExCo member further disclosed that some of the ex-footballers who benefited from the visa support had expressed gratitude to the GFA president, making Taylor’s accusations surprising.
"There are others who came to thank the president for helping them with visas, only for Taylor to accuse him of neglect. Okraku did not finance his ticket, it was just the visa," he added.
