Benjamin Asare: The only goalkeeper who denied England goals at the 2026 World Cup

Benjamin Asare has become the only goalkeeper to keep England from scoring in the 2026 World Cup tournament so far.

The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper produced a standout performance when the Black Stars held Thomas Tuchel’s England to a goalless draw, frustrating an attack that had been among the most dangerous at the tournament.

England arrived at the World Cup with the firepower of captain Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, who have been leading the Three Lions’ charge with a combined 12 goals.

The duo had already shown their threat when England defeated Croatia 4-2 in their opening game, with Kane scoring twice.

But against Ghana, Asare stood tall.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper was not even Ghana’s first-choice option at the start of the tournament.

He entered the game against Panama in the second half after Lawrence Ati-Zigi picked up an injury, before earning a starting role against England and Croatia.

Against the Three Lions, Asare made crucial saves to deny England’s attacking players, including stopping efforts from Bukayo Saka and Kane as Ghana’s defence resisted sustained pressure.

With England still having their semi-final against Argentina and a possible final or third-place playoff ahead, Asare remains the only goalkeeper who has managed to shut them out at the 2026 World Cup.
