Two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has revealed that memories of the painful demise of his two close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, continue to hurt him deeply.

The British boxer sealed his victory over Kristian Prenga with a second-round knockout as he prepares to face Tyson Fury in a blockbuster bout.

Speaking ahead of the fight in an interview with the BBC, Joshua admitted that he has been struggling to cope with the tragic situation.

He explained that discussing the issue makes him emotional, and he prefers not to engage in such conversations as the pain remains fresh.

“It’s tough. Every time I think about it, it hurts a lot. Even talking about it now, pictures, it hurts. But I need to keep my mind occupied, you know. Yeah, just keep my mind occupied. Because if I stop, you let it sink in, and I’m not ready for it to sink in yet,” he said.

Joshua lost two of his closest friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, in a tragic car accident in Ogun State, Nigeria, on Monday, December 29, 2025.

The fatal crash occurred on a busy highway in Makun, just hours after Joshua and his associates had reportedly spent time playing tennis together.

Reports indicated that the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a stationary truck, an incident that tragically claimed the lives of two people.

Joshua sustained minor injuries but has since fully recovered and resumed his professional duties.
