Para Athlete Zinabu wins Ghana's first medal at the Commonwealth Games

Ghanaian para athlete Zinabu Issah has secured the nation’s first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after an incredible performance.

Competing in the Women’s F57 Shot Put final, Issah produced a season-best throw of 8.65 metres to claim the silver medal, giving Team Ghana its first medal of the Games and providing a timely boost to the nation’s hopes of a successful campaign in Scotland.

In what was a keenly contested event, Zinabu delivered multiple strong throws, ultimately achieving her personal best to finish second.

The silver medal forms part of Team Ghana’s ambition to win more medals and establish themselves among the best in the overall rankings.

Despite limited funding, inadequate training facilities, and restricted access to world-class competition, Ghana’s para athletes continue to make an impact on the international stage.

Zinabu’s success will go down in history at the Commonwealth Games, inspiring other Ghanaian athletes to aim for glory as well.

The 23rd Commonwealth Games are officially underway in Glasgow, running from July 23 to August 2, 2026. The event features around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories competing for 215 gold medals across 10 core sports.
