The U-20 Men national team of Ghana
Ghana's hopes of reaching the semifinals of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship will be decided on the final day of the group stage games after the Black Satellites were held to a 1-1 draw by Burkina Faso on Thursday at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire.
The Black Satellites delivered an improved performance under head coach Maxwell Konadu, with Joseph Badu scoring the equaliser after Burkina Faso had taken the lead in a fiercely contested Group B encounter.
Needing a positive result following their 4-2 opening defeat to defending champions Nigeria, Ghana started with greater discipline and intensity.
The Black Satellites looked more organised defensively and matched Burkina Faso physically in an evenly balanced first half.
Burkina Faso broke the deadlock with a superbly struck free-kick, putting Ghana under pressure and leaving the Black Satellites with another uphill task in a competition where every point is crucial.
Ghana responded positively and were rewarded when Joseph Badu found the back of the net with a composed finish to restore parity and revive their qualification hopes.
Both sides searched for a winner in an entertaining second half, creating opportunities at either end, but neither team could find the decisive breakthrough as the contest ended 1-1.
The result leaves Ghana third in Group B with one point from two matches. The Black Satellites must now beat Togo in their final group game and hope Nigeria overcome Burkina Faso to stand a chance of progressing to the semifinals.
