The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has disclosed that the Executive Council (ExCo) has recommended that Carlos Queiroz continue as head coach of the Black Stars on a long-term basis.

He explained that the ExCo thoroughly assessed the Portuguese manager’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and concluded that he deserves to remain in the role.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Sports, Asante Twum noted that the GFA is working towards finalizing a deal with Queiroz.

“The council, which is the highest decision-making body, after assessing the performance of Coach Carlos Queiroz, has agreed that the coach should stay,” he said.

Regarding contract renewal talks, Asante Twum confirmed that discussions are ongoing, with both sides presenting their offers, though he is not privy to the specific details.

He further emphasized that the GFA does not take final decisions alone, as the Ministry of Sports and Recreation is also involved to ensure the financial commitments are within the nation’s means.

“The final decision does not rest solely with the FA. It must go to the ministry for them to review the contract and approve, because they will pay the coach’s salary. I don’t know what the FA’s offer is to the coach or the counteroffer he is proposing,” he added.

Reports suggest that negotiations have reached a stalemate, with Queiroz reportedly demanding a $150,000 salary.

This impasse has prompted the association to explore alternative options should an agreement not be reached, especially with the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers set to begin in September 2026.
