Ghana-Anhui Chamber donates 2,120 sports items to support Constituency Games

The Ghana-Anhui Chamber of Commerce and Industry has donated 2,120 sports items to the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee (RMPC) to support the nationwide Constituency Games.

The items were presented on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the ESP Hotel in Labone, Accra.

They comprised 600 pairs of footwear, including Peace canvas sneakers and casual shoes, as well as 1,520 Peace T-shirts in adult unisex sizes ranging from XS to 3XL.

The donation is expected to support the participation of young people in the Constituency Games and contribute to the development of grassroots sports across the country.

The ceremony brought together representatives from Ghana’s sports community, the Ghanaian and Chinese business communities and international organisations.

Those present included Ghana Olympic Committee President Richard Akpokavie, NSA Board Chairman Professor Fred Awaah, NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, RMPC Chairman Samson Deen, Ghana-Anhui Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Tang Wei, President of the Chinese Societies Association Tang Hong, United Nations security representative Lihong Shen and former Black Stars captain André Dede Ayew.

‘No child should be left behind’

Speaking at the ceremony, Samson Deen expressed appreciation to the Ghana-Anhui Chamber for supporting the Constituency Games and the broader effort to develop sports from the grassroots.

“This is not merely a donation. It is an investment in Ghana’s young people and in the government’s Reset Ghana Sports Agenda,” he said.

Deen said the Constituency Games were intended to provide young people across the country with opportunities to participate in organised sports regardless of their location or economic circumstances.

“No child should be denied the opportunity to participate in sport because of their location, economic circumstances or background,” he said.

He added that Ghana had significant sporting potential that could translate into national and international success with the right structures, partnerships and investment.

“With the right systems, credible partnerships and sustained investment, Ghanaian sport can once again take centre stage and project our country positively to the world,” he said.

Sport as a tool for unity

Chairman of the Ghana-Anhui Chamber, Tang Wei, said the donation formed part of the Chamber’s corporate social responsibility efforts and its commitment to supporting communities in Ghana.

“Sport is a powerful force that brings people together, promotes peace and strengthens communities,” he said.

He expressed hope that the items would create opportunities for young people and pledged the Chamber’s continued support for the initiative.

Former Black Stars captain André Ayew also commended the Chamber for supporting a programme focused on developing young sporting talent.

He said early investment in young athletes was important to rebuilding Ghana’s sporting future and encouraged other corporate institutions, development partners and individuals to support the Constituency Games.

Supporting grassroots talent

The donation follows the inauguration of the NSA Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee and the launch of its partnership and donations initiative to mobilise support from the private sector, institutions and international partners for the Constituency Games.

The Games seek to provide young people in every constituency with structured opportunities to participate in sports, demonstrate their abilities and progress through an organised talent-development pathway.

The programme is being implemented under the vision, “Uniting Communities, Inspiring Talent and Building the Future,” with partnership, transparency, community ownership, inclusion and excellence identified as key principles.

The organisers believe the donation will help reduce barriers to participation and provide more young people with the opportunity to take part in organised sports.

The Ghana-Anhui Chamber said its support formed part of its broader commitment to contributing to youth development, community engagement and national development.
