Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has called for deliberate measures to strengthen the Ghana Premier League and make domestic football attractive enough to draw more supporters to the stadium.

Adams made the call on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The Minister stressed the need for clubs and football stakeholders to create an environment that encourages supporters to invest their time and money in following local football.

He rejected the notion that supporters owe clubs their attendance, arguing that the product on offer must be good enough to earn their attention.

“We complain that Ghanaians do not attend local football, but supporters do not owe clubs their money. Football must earn their attention,” Adams said.

He urged clubs to improve their operations and match-day experience while building a product that can attract both supporters and corporate sponsors.

“There is something good in investing in sports, especially football. So let’s begin to see them, so that next time we approach corporate Ghana to come on board, we will have something to demonstrate,” he added.

Adams also referenced his experience at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where fans told him they had already begun saving immediately after the 2022 tournament to attend the next edition.

He questioned whether Ghana currently has a football environment capable of inspiring such commitment.

“We need to create it. It can’t appear as magic; it has to be created,” he said.
