Kofi Adams is the Minister of Sports and Recreation
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams says the Ghana Premier League is facing competition not only from other football leagues but also from the growing range of entertainment options available to fans.
According to Adams, the domestic league is now competing with the English Premier League, the Championship, social media platforms such as TikTok, streaming services and gaming for the attention of supporters.
He made the remarks on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Adams said clubs and football authorities must understand the changing entertainment landscape and find innovative ways to make the Ghana Premier League attractive to supporters.

“Our league is competing with the Premier League, the Championship, TikTok, streaming platforms, gaming and any other forms of entertainment available on the mobile phone. We are competing with all these platforms, so don’t think you are alone. That is why you must do things to attract. You need to create something to attract them,” he said.
The Minister also challenged clubs to change the perception that supporters are responsible for filling stadiums, insisting that the responsibility lies with the football industry to provide a product worth following.
“The fans don’t owe you. We actually have the responsibility towards them,” Adams added.
