President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, disclosed several packages for local competitions and outlined measures his outfit is taking to tackle challenges.

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, also shared his thoughts on issues affecting the local league and highlighted government plans to improve football in the country.

The announcements were made during the 32nd Ordinary Congress of the GFA at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Cash, Vehicles and Others: Full list of financial rewards announced by GFA

Okraku revealed a series of financial rewards and support packages for clubs, players, and former national team players as part of efforts to strengthen domestic football.

Here are 10 key takeaways from the GFA Congress:

Ghana Premier League

Each GPL club will receive GH¢1 million, while the champions will earn GH¢3 million.

Additional incentives for the 2026/27 season include a vehicle worth US$33,000 for the league champions.

< b> Women's Premier League (WPL)

The WPL champions will receive a vehicle worth US$29,000.

Division One League

Clubs will benefit from a support package worth GH¢16.24 million.

Each WPL club will also receive GH¢100,000.

Individual Awards

Best GPL player and WPL player of the season: US$5,000 each.

GPL Coach of the Season: US$5,000.

Best Domestic Black Stars Player: Vehicle worth US$38,000.

Benjamin Asare Award

Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare will receive a brand-new vehicle worth US$38,000, supplied by TAC Motors, after being adjudged the best local player in the national team.

Ex-Players Welfare Package

The GFA committed US$200,000 over four years to support the healthcare needs of former national team players, with US$50,000 allocated annually through the GFA Foundation.

Local League Competing with Foreign Ones

Sports Minister Kofi Adams noted that the GPL faces competition not only from foreign leagues like the English Premier League but also from entertainment platforms such as TikTok, streaming services, and gaming.

Mini-Stadium Increment by President John Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has increased the number of mini-stadiums to be constructed across Ghana from six to ten, covering more regions.

Ghana Premier League Appeal

Kofi Adams called for deliberate measures to strengthen the GPL and make domestic football attractive enough to draw supporters.

He stressed that clubs must offer a product compelling enough to earn fans' attention, rather than assuming attendance is owed.

Ban on Betting

The GFA announced that no betting company has been licensed to offer odds on domestic matches, as part of a crackdown on match-fixing.

The move aims to reduce financial incentives that could encourage manipulation of match outcomes.
