Former Black Stars captain André Dede Ayew has stated that he is not currently focused on contesting for the position of President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), despite calls from some members of the public.

Ayew has recently been linked with a possible bid for the GFA presidency and has increased his visibility in the local sporting landscape through appearances at events and support for teams.

The former Ghana captain is presently a free agent after spending last season with Dutch club NAC Breda.

Responding to the speculation, Ayew explained that his priority is to contribute to the growth and improvement of sporting activities in Ghana by playing his part in the development of the game.

The former Swansea City attacker further emphasised that his ambition is to ensure football improves immediately, hence his recent involvement in various sporting disciplines through support initiatives.

“First of all, what the masses want is most important. I’ve heard the rumours [about people saying I should lead Ghana football], but that’s not what is important. I just want our football to grow. Not tomorrow, but now,” he said during the Obi One Podcast hosted in Ghana by ex-Nigerian midfielder Mikel Obi.
