Ghana international Kwasi Sibo is set to begin a new chapter in Libya after arriving in Cairo on Monday, August 24, 2026, to complete his move to Libyan champions Al-Swehly.

The 28-year-old midfielder has agreed a three-year contract with the club and is expected to undergo his medical examination before the transfer is formally completed.

He will then link up with the squad as Al-Swehly prepare for their CAF Champions League preliminary-round campaign.

Sibo's move comes after his proposed transfer to Turkish Super Lig side Gençlerbirliği unexpectedly collapsed.

The Ghanaian had reached a preliminary agreement with the Ankara-based club earlier this month and was expected to sign a two-year deal with an option for another season.

However, Gençlerbirliği pulled out of the deal after deciding to strengthen their midfield with Senegalese midfielder Cheikh Niasse, leaving Sibo searching for another destination.

The former Real Oviedo midfielder had attracted significant interest following his showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played 249 minutes for Ghana.

He featured for 12 minutes against Panama, played the full 90 minutes against England, before playing 85 minutes against Croatia and 62 minutes against Colombia.

Sibo had previously expressed his desire to continue playing at the highest level in Europe, while reports also linked him with clubs in the Premier League, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Al Ahly were among the clubs reportedly interested, but Sibo has ultimately opted for Al-Swehly.
