Iñaki Williams has ended his international career with Ghana after making 28 appearances for the Black Stars and scoring two goals.

The Athletic Club captain switched his international allegiance from Spain to Ghana in 2022, choosing to represent the country of his parents. He made his Ghana debut in September 2022 in a friendly against Brazil.

Williams was expected to bring the explosiveness and goalscoring form he had shown at club level to the national team, but his goal return remained modest.

He scored just twice in his 28 appearances for Ghana.

His first Black Stars goal came in November 2023, when he scored in stoppage time to secure a 1-0 victory over Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He added his second international goal in March 2025 during Ghana's 5-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Chad.

Williams was part of Ghana's squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire.

He also featured in Ghana's 2026 World Cup campaign, giving him appearances at two World Cups and one AFCON during his international career.

Despite his relatively low goalscoring output, Williams remained an important figure for the Black Stars, particularly because of his pace, experience and ability to operate across the frontline.

The 32-year-old announced his decision to retire from international football on September 11, 2026, bringing an end to a four-year spell with Ghana.

Williams said Ghana had given him the opportunity to reconnect with his roots and expressed pride in representing the country.

He leaves the Black Stars with 28 appearances and two goals, having featured in two FIFA World Cups and one Africa Cup of Nations.
