Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram are set to take charge of the Black Stars on an interim basis for their November 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header against Somalia.

According to reports, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has made a decision to temporarily appoint interim management following the departure of Carlos Queiroz, who left his role after Ghana’s disappointing start to the qualifying campaign, as the committee searches for a permanent manager.

The Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening match before losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving Ghana without a point after two games.

Tanko, who is currently head coach of Medeama SC, has previously served as an assistant coach of the senior national team and managed Ghana’s Under-23 side, the Black Meteors.

Attram, meanwhile, is already part of the Black Stars’ technical team, having been appointed assistant coach in September 2026.

The two coaches are understood to be among the options being considered as the GFA seeks to ensure the team is adequately prepared for the November fixtures while the search for a substantive head coach continues.

A five-member committee, chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe, has been tasked with identifying Queiroz’s successor. The committee is expected to submit its report on Friday, October 9.

Ghana will be hoping to secure positive results against Somalia to revive their campaign and improve their chances of qualifying for the 2027 AFCON.

However, the GFA has yet to officially announce who will lead the Black Stars for the double-header.

The GFA has officially extended the application deadline for the vacant Black Stars head coach position to October 15, 2026, with the evaluation and selection process expected to continue through October and November. The committee will submit its final recommendation after completing its assessment.
