Asamoah Gyan had his first public outing following his headline-making move to Al Ain at the weekend. The Ghana striker attended a press conference on Monday morning at the Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain.
He was cornered by Emirati journalists, who asked if he would promise to stay at Al Ain.
“I don’t promise. I’m somebody who doesn’t promise.”
The 25-year-old’s arrival completes the foreign player quota each club can register for the coming season. Argentina’s Ignacio Scocco, Mirel Radoi of Romania and Saudi Arabia’s Yasser al-Qahtani are the other foreign players who have already signed for Al Ain.
Gyan extolled the qualities of his new club. “Al Ain is a big club that has quality players who are capable of doing everything to win. I cannot do it alone. As a team we can go places.”
Then he was asked by a journalist why he “left the best league in the world”.
Gyan responded by saying it is a challenge: “I made a decision with my family. The Asian league is improving very well.”
Sunderland’s record signing was introduced to his new teammates before Sunday’s training session. He has already passed the medical at the Al Ain Hospital, formerly known as the Al Jimi Hospital.
The UAE league season starts on October 15.
