4. PLAYERS LACKING DISCIPLINE. TOO MANY CARDS. IN 3 GAMES, GH HAD 8 CARDS... AN AVERAGE OF 3.2 CARDS PER GAME.

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE IN THE QUARTER FINALS/KNOCKOUT STAGES, AA. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER BEFORE YOU GET SURPRISED.

Anyhow, that aside, I think I agree with you in general that our reporters and journalists do need to learn their grammar well. I will still defend the above writer though on his caption. There is nothing wrong with "trio injury boost for Ghana", used as a heading. You see, headings are not supposed to be complete sentences necessarily. Phrases and clauses are allowed, so long as they make sense. In this case, it does. The writer meant the three players who were injured have been declared fit to play, and this is a boost for Ghana. As a sports caption, it's correct.
Let me end by reiterating my earlier point that I agree with you that something serious needs to be done about the quality of the grammar our writers and all others who use the media, including public officials, are exposing our kids to. It gives some of us stomach troubles, very often. I can understand a few typographical errors especially for many of us who don't know how to type. But grammatical errors are not typographical, and they make you wonder, "did he or she really go to school in Ghana?"

Within the context in which the caption was presented and with the coming Cape Verde/Ghana encounter, one was expecting to read of the injury of three prominent Cape Verdian players, a development which would have advantaged (boosted) the Black Stars when the two teams meet.

I don't think many people would be hoping for injury to Cape Verde players so Ghana can win. This is only football, after all. All those players have families and careers. We are all passionate about our Ghan Black Stars but do we really want to see other players injured so we can win? I don't think so. That's why the caption makes total sense. That's just my 2 cents! He's not the first to use. Hold on, don't tell me that fact doesn't necessarily make it right. I know, but there's no grammatical error in that heading. Those three were injured players who have come out of the infirmary- it's an injury boost for their team. That is said everywhere, and it is correct!

Please what is wrong is WRONG. An injured person cannot be a boost or a blessing to his own side. He can only be so to his opponents. "Trio injury" should mean sad, pity, fear or threat and not "boost for Ghana". Boost is sort of hope or blessing in disguise.

A person who has recovered from injury or recuperated is a boost to his side.

One needs to consider both the Grammar and the logical implications. For example one may say "The ant swallowed the elephant." This is Grammatically right. (Subject + Active Verb + Object). Logically, this is absolutely wrong. How can an ant swallow elephant? It's practically impossible.

So the journalist is technically and logically wrong. He has contradicted himself, logically. "Trio injury" = negative + "boost for Ghana" = positive. So it is: Fear + Assurance/Hope, whereas he meant Joy + Assurance/ Hope. God bless our home land Ghana and God bless all Ghanaians.
