I have watched Ghana teams play in African Cups and other competitive football over 40 years. Ghana teams has suffered bias officiating including maltreatment at away games many times. This is the first time in my life that I have witnessed a referee who played number 12 for Ghana.
The penalty for Ghana was a good penalty, so as similar incident that should have favored the Bourkinas' team, yet the referee did not award a penalty against Ghana. Bourkinas' also scored a good goal. The referee disallowed. What amazed me was that, the referee neither ruled that goal as off side which could not have been the case or as fouled against the Bourkina forward player for pushing.
This is a shame for the referee. Ghana Black Stars lost the game to a better team.
I think coach Appiah lacks critical coaching technicality. Why did he keep Gyan and chanced Wakaso beats my football intelligence. It was obvious that the game was heading towards penalty kicks. Gyan had made it known that he would not participate in spot kicks until only when necessary. Wakaso should have been kept and Gyan should have been changed.
Coach Appiah has disappointed me and Ghana very well. I am not sure he could yield any better results for Ghana.
I was all for coach Appiah's appointment, from what I saw during his organization and selections in the tournament, I have given up on the Coach.

DUTCH football legend, Ruud Gullit, believes the Super Eagles are as good as winning the 2013 Africa Nations Cup following a spectacular performance on Wednesday when Nigeria beat Mali 4-1 in the first semi-final of Afcon 2013.

To him, the turning point for Nigeria was the win over the highly-rated Ivory Coast team which Nigeria beat 2-1 in the quarter final.

‘’I think the Nigerian football is the best on display.They have a strong and clever way to get the ball behind their opponents especially with Mikel dictating the direction where the passes go,’’ Gullit told Supersport.

He gave credit to Stephen Keshi’s tactical options.

‘’Against Ivory Coast, everybody thought the Eagles were coming to defend but they came for attacking play and it paid off. With that mindset, they came to hurt the Malians’’.

We were even favored by referees in the Mali match (Dauda's overruled red card) and in the Burkina Match (disallowed goal, red card, overturned penalty). After the Cape Verde match most of our players were tired. So reinforcements were needed badly. Dropping Adoma was a good idea because he was tired in the Cape Verde match. SO LET ME FANTASIZE A BIT: For the Burkina match, I would have fired all the GUNS in order to make the finals. Our opponents in that match were tall, muscular and fast, so I would have matched them with similar qualities. I would put Jonathan(6feet 2 ins) in right back and put Kissi Boateng(6 feet) in left back, and maintain Vorsah and Boye. I will play two strikers: Yiadom and Clottey. I will maintain Wakasso, Badu, Rabiu(sub Boateng) and Asamoah(sub Atsu).

1."Beef" is not a term a so called "professional" journalist should be using.
2. Gyan was NOT a passer-by for most of the tournament. He got into goal scoring positions and he missed chances. Missing chances does not make you a passer-by in a game. A passer-by is someone who was not seen in the game. We saw a LOT of Gyan, unfortunately, most of it was bad.
3. Derrick Boateng was the POOREST player on the pitch - how can this guy say he was any good. Instead of getting into position to dtop passes going through, he was constantly running behind people and tripping them up. He picked up a yellow card soon after he came on because of this. And there was always the risk he would get a second yellow because he continued to trip people up.

We had the ball, and were playing our usual back and side passes when the Burkinabe pounced! Our defenders had switched off, yes, but we should never have given away possession the way we did.

He show how clueless he was as a manager, by subtitution our leading goal scorer and penalty taker just as the game was leading to penalties. His team played the worst football i have ever witnessed the Black Stars play in any tournament. (throughout this competition). But what i have noticed about us Ashanti's is that we turn a blind eye when its one of our own. No wonder you will still defend this poor excuse for a manager. Well, the writer has been unfair to Gyan. As a lone striker, Gyan did what he had to do. There weren't many clear chances for him but he hit the upright, and his glancing header narrowly missed the post. As a lone striker he severely had to depend on services from the midfield which were few and far between in this particular match.
Now let me share with you what I think let the team down.
1. Agyeman Badu. This energetic player had a bad day, and that seriously affected the link between Gyan and the midfield. He was aggressive in the beginning but the desire to 'die hard' easily fizzled out. Indeed, apart from Asante (who I think was a revelation), Boye and Vorsah, the rest virtually lost most of their 'die hard' spirit.
2. The team did atrocious passing. Players could not keep the ball among themselves for long; and their passes were often intercepted by the opposing team.
The two factors above resulted from two things:
1. Physique. In most competitions, Ghanaian players are always counted among the 'petit sizes'. Ghanaian plays do not lack in skills but our teams always lack the 'well-built,steel-like, powerful men'. The Burkinabes realized this as a flaw and thus decided to use their physique to their advantage. Anytime there was a physical contact, you're sure the Ghanaian player will go down! You can count the number of time Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah fell due to physical contacts with the Burkinabes. We need burly, well-built players both at the back and in front. Vorsah and Boye survived this match mainly because they 'matched' the Burkinabes physique. Hence they gave the Burkinabe forwards a 'hell of time'.
This match must be a lesson for the Black Stars handlers(I hope they read my comments or somebody tells them). Ghanaian teams NEED to RECRUIT WELL-BUILT, PHYSICALLY INTIMIDATING PLAYERS. Indeed, one of reasons why our 'professional players' are not able to survive/maintain positions for longer period in their respective teams in spite of their skills. Modern football has shifted from placing TOO MUCH emphasis on SKILLS to focusing on POWER AND PHYSIQUE. If one looks critically at the international football arena, there are numerous examples of such players; and it is not for nothing that such players are also among the most acclaimed. What is important in modern soccer appears to be POWER AND TECHNICALITY. SKILLS are certainly an added advantage.
Unfortunately,those who recruit players to our national teams appear to focus too much on 'skilful players' who somehow have tended to be 'small-to-medium built'. Such players need to be extremely strong willed (as often demonstrated by Andre) to be able to survive 'physical matches' like the one just played with the Burkinabes.
I suggest then that there must be a shift toward bringing in well-built players - the likes of Vorsah, and Boye; the Emmanuel Quarshie, Kwesi Owusu, Anas Seidu, Sarfo Gyamfi etc. In short, in modern soccer the team that survives and makes the needed mark is the one made up of players who are WELL-BUILT PHYSICALLY AND TECHNICALLY ASTUTE. We must change the look of our forwards. Our forwards must look PHYSICALLY INTIMIDATING TO THE OPPOSING TEAM'S DEFENCE!
I think Bukhard Ziese's time attempted a system like that but latter coaches have not looked at perfecting it!
2. I think the coach has to abandon the 'one-top/striker' approach. I don't like it because the top striker can easily be targetted. As a target, the player will have to be extra quick and must be able to take even 'half chances'. I think that's too much for one player when that responsibility can be designed for more than a player. I don't like the one-top approach because it forces the team to use long balls/passes which indeed, looking at the physique of our players is not effective. Long balls/pases are often easily headed away by taller players in the opposing team. In addition, I don't like the one-top striker approach because the link between the striker and the midfield is often tenous. In the match against Burkinabe our loss was already 'written on the wall' when Agyeman Badu did not 'click' as expected; and when Kwadwo Asamoah and Atsu could not hold on to balls.
The coach must look for a 'thicker midfield' that links seamlessly with the attacking line. This way, the strikers can strike and/or can be 'decoys' for the 'second strikers' in the midfield.

At the end of the day we must congratulate the Burkinabes. Their strategy of using their physical built to advantage worked. They passed better than the Ghanaians and that dare-devil Pitroipa was a real 'thorn in our flesh'. Again, we must thank burly Bance who had a field day because of his intimidating physique, for throwing away the numerous opportunities that came his way!
We lost to a better, well-conditioned team!

All the international observers certified that the elections were clean and fair, it was very close but clean and fair without fraud so concede and let the country move on.

As for Appiah it is very obvious that he does not have what it takes to take the Black Stars to the next level at this point in time. There was just too much experimenting and bad decisions to ensure victory. I did not see the end of the game but taking Wakaso out before the penalties is the last straw. This is a guy who stepped up without hesitation and made all his penalties. Why would he miss when the finals is at stake? Why not take out Boye and bring in Jonathan mensah or take out Badu and bring on Annan? Annan is one of the best defensive midfielders on Black Stars and yet he never played a single second after recovering from his injury. Why? Any Coach who really wanted to win that game would have left Wakaso in the game, he was untouchable, he earned the right to be untouchable.
