The Confederation of African Football has selected five members of the Super Eagles for the Best Eleven after Nigeria defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 on Sunday to lift the Nations Cup title for the third time.

Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, defender Efe Ambrose, midfielder Mikel Obi and forwards Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike were selected to complete a team which also has Cape Verde Island’s Nando Maria Neves, Mali’s Seydou Keita, Burkina Faso’s Jonathan Pitroipa, Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan and Ivory Coast’s Arouna Koné and Siaka Tiéné.

Emenike, who won the Top Scorer award with four goals, was elated after the victory despite not playing in the final game due to injury.

He said, “Even though I did not play, I felt the pressure as if I was on the pitch. Starting from the beginning, Nigerians didn’t believe in us but I thank God today that we’re the champions. I’m so excited right now. I just want Nigerians to give us more time to get stronger.

In 1982, Ghana won her last nations cup in Libya. Libya were the runner up on penalties and Zambia was 3rd. I was not born then but because I want to be knowledgaeble , I read my history. In 1992, I very well remember that. It was in Senegal. Our maestro Abedi Pele had a dubios red card and missed the finals agaianst Ivory Coast. The Ivorians won in what is considered the longest penalty shoot out in nations cup history. Every player including the goalkepers shot penalties. If you dont know anything about football, Just shut your dirty keyboards. History 101.

I don't agree with Afriyie Ankrah asking for forgiveness for the Black Stars. For Christ sake we made it to the semi-finals which is not a mean feat.If nothing at all we should show our appreciation to them for getting us so far. We Ghanaians have a chip on our shoulder when it comes to African Football for we think that we are so good that we should win the cup on every occasion. There is nothing wrong with this belief and confidence but we have to be realistic at times. Kwasi Appiah to me has done well within 10 months to qualify us for the competition and going that far. There have been occasions in the past when we did not even qualify for the competition and also many instances where we did not even get out of the group stages. Don't let us pull down Kwasi Appiah but we should rather encourage him to go one step further than the semi-final he achieved in his first time as a coach to the competition. Concerning Essien, he chose not to make himself available for the team and was this the fault of the coach?

The reason why many Ghanaians are upset with AA is deeper than reaching the semi-finals and losing to Burkina Faso. IT IS HOW WE LOST, even with referees favoring us in most of the decisions. AA has always been with the team as Assistant since MILO took us to the finals of AFCON 2010 and also to the World Cup quarter finals. AA was also ASSISTANT when PLAVI took us to AFCON 2012 semi finals. Many Ghanaian supporters took MILO and PLAVI to task, of course they will take AA to task also. Ghanaians want to win as much as Nigerians, Egyptians, Ivorians, Zambians etc. If you want to coach the National team of any country you must be tough, competent, visionary and progressive. AA is at an advantage because he has been an assistant for so long that much will be expected from him. He has to wake up to SEEKING THE NEEDED HELP, I mean high tech stuff about football and apply them for results. Everything about football at the highest level is very STRATEGIC, even if you have great players you still have to be shrewd or else you will lose when you should WIN!

What is the point of saying Ghanaians should forgive the Black Stars? They went, played and were unsucessful, after all they are the fourth in Africa. All we have to say is good luck next time. Ghanaians (some) should rather apologize to them for writing all sorts of nonsenses before, during and after their exit and some calling for the head of the coach and the captain. Shame on some of us (Ghanaians). This is my advice to the football administrators in the country:- (1)LET US TRY WHAT WE DID IN 1978 during Col. Acheampong's era the gave us the trophy for good. (2) Rely mostly on local players who will not be playing and thinking about their european contracts but rather GHANA and their future (3) Start early camping to really know and understand the role of all to be involved and lastly include only those professionals with no big contracts (the rookies). Some of these measures can or will produce players in the likes of Abdul Razak (Golden Boy), Adolf Armah (Hitla), Dan Kayode, Kyenkyenhene, Dan Owusu (Goal King,injured then) Agyemang Prempeh (injured then), Paha, Isaac Acqaye, Charles Opong, Harun Yusif (Lule), Mohemmed Polo (Dribbling Magician) Francis Kumi just mention a few. We know where to go for these players, and it is the Bukoms, Accra Towns, Zangos, Boles, Aboabos, Kejetias, Pramkesims, Ketas, Sawlas, Tamales, Yendis, Sekondis, Accra New Towns, Darkuman, Nimas, Was and finally all towns and villages that we smell a local plyayer (s) from in the regions. Then, from there, we see what happen if we really mean business, and trust me with Kwesi Appiah still as the head coach, we will be heard of in African soccer again. Fellow Ghanaians, my point of advice is to experiment something that has worked for us before. Keep Appiah or any other local coach, then rely on the local players, because local players become the professional, period. Anyway, HOLLOW BE THY NAMES KWESI APPIAH and ASAMOAH GYAN for your able leadership and good luck next time.
