We now have new players who can compete with our established players at every position. Most of the problems came from the older players getting tired as the tournament went on. Losing out on penalties to the Burkina team is nothing to be ashamed of. They have now beaten us 6 times, most of them under foreign coaches.

Let me reiterate. How many matches had Dauda, Awal, Asante, Atsu, Akaminko, Rabiu, Wakaso and Clottey played for BS before Coach Appiah took over? When was the last time you saw Ghana playing with wing-backs like Asante and K. Asamoah? You want to keep winning by playing the same players over and over again? No sir.

If we are patient with Coach Appiah, he will find a number of player combinations to compete against various opponents. That was missing in the era of the Serbian coaches who I otherwise liked. They had great players to work with and still could not win a Cup.

Remember that players like Essien, Sulley, Stephen Appiah and Kevin Boateng come around once in a generation. You need to let them rest when they are past their peak. If we get into a do or die situation in World Cup qualifier, you can always call them back. But don't expect them to come and win 6 match tournaments for you...they are past that. Let them continue making money for their retirement accounts now.

What worries me more is our inability to come back from behind. Our teams can't seem to find a way to increase pressure without opening up big holes at the back. That is a major tactical flaw that must be fixed otherwise we will concede a lot of second half goals against stronger teams or when we fall behind.

Come on, people, be realistic. This is 2013 and all countires have made great strides in soccer. Don't expect Ghana to win any tournament we enter because we won't. Not even Brazil wins all the time. Spare yourselves a heart attack and stomach ulcers and lighen up a bit. The team is young and we can improve. While ther are lessons we need to learn, we must stop basing the coach and GFA. It does not help anyone. Long live the Ghana Black Stars. We will shine again!

When in distress, people get myopic and can't think and see well. Kwasi Appiah is not the real problem, but the overpaid and super egomaniac foreign-based players. Nearly 95% of the Black Stars players play abroad and being well coached by some of the experienced coaches in the World and they also enjoy some of the best soccer facilities.

If these players can’t rely on their skills and the good coaching they receive abroad, then why blame any coach whether Appiah or the Serbian AZONTOLESS high paid, but underperforming coaches? True, nobody wins all the time and the true fact about all competitive sports in today’s world is:

"Every country is CATCHING UP on tactics, speed, teamwork,” etc., etc., and so UNDERESTIMATING some teams could be done at those fools’ peril. I played soccer myself in college and to first division level in Ghana before I left and at the height of my game, I wrongly underestimated some teams some of which gave my team/s HELL in some contests and ever since I've sworn never to underestimate any team. Even if you give me 4-year olds to play against, I will score 1,001 goals and not letting up—even if all their parents jump onto the field--because you will never know when they will get their mojo to strike back.

What seems disturbing to me is the "arrogance and showboating" of our foreign-based players because of the money they make outside Ghana. They should be humbled, as the 2010 World Cup Soccer in South Africa and the two past AFCON disappointments have shown. All what Kwasi Appiah should do are primarily four things: (1) How to build a good teamwork with all these scattered players; (2) How to critically strategize against opponents; (3) When and how to change players during games; and (4) The task of developing good winning tactics.

We need a mix to talent with many youngsters in the mix so that nobody has to play every match of the tournament. It is true of the goalkeepers as well. If nothing else, opponents figure out your moves and play to your weaknesses. Good job on player development, Coach Appiah but listen to your tactical advisers as well.

Is the future of the black stars going to be jeopardized by failure of the GFA to recognize the obvious. I prefer the black Stars to play good football and yet fail to bring the cup than as poorly as they did. during the world cup 2006 and 2010 I and the 2012 afcon I was heartbroken when they failed to progress because they played good football, however, in the just ended AFCON I at a point felt the Burkinabese where hard done by. They played far better than us and I expected them to win hence it did not come as a surprise to me they won. If changes are not made I don't foresee Ghana qualifying to the world cup, I better stop planning towards it. Sometimes I feel sorry to say I'm a Ghanaian when asked where I'm from, just because many in authority act like they are uneducated and do not use common sense. I just hope the GFA is not taking such a stupid decision because they will benefit financially from it. For those on this page supporting the acts of the GFA blindly be made aware that most of the political decisions made by the GFA is not for the gain of the country but for their own pockets. BE WISE

Are you telling me the performance from the 2006 AFCON squad, which consisted of Stephen Appiah, Laryea Kingston, John Mensah, and the rest, with the exception of Muntari and Essien, was better than the performance from this 2013 squad? If your respond is yes then all I could say is, "You must be joking". That team lost to Zimbabwe in the group stage and for that matter couldn't make it to even the quarter-finals.

In this tournament, Burkina Faso led its group, which was group 'C' and Nigeria came second from this same group. Burkina Faso managed to get to the finals by beating us. When you compare this Burkina Faso team to the 2006 Zimbabwe team that took care of the Black Stars, then, you should at least come out with something good this 2013 squad brought to the table.

Yes, our Black Stars performed not so well but I don't think they did that bad compared to the quality of players at our possession. If you will tell the truth, you will conclude that, in our matches, we couldn't get players to hold on to possessions. This is an indication of nervousness and inexperience. Players at all departments couldn't have the confidence to keep possessions. The team is under construction. We have to be a little calm in during such a process.

I for one think the chance given to Appiah to keep his post is a good one. We will benefit from it. He just need a refreshing course in terms of how to rotate players, how and when to substitute, and how to map his games. The coach needs help and no one can give it to him but, you and I, the citizens of the country.

You don't remove your best penalty taker in the dying minutes of major tournament when it was quite obvious that the game was heading for a penalty shoot out. You don't play your best playmaker in left back when there are qualified players for that position. You don't omit some of your best players for a tournament just because you have personality issues with them. You don't disrespect your reliable goalkeeper because you wanted to try something new. I can go on and on. The simply truth of the matter is that the coach is inexperience and lacks the wisdom to coach a national team such as the Black Stars.

I didn't know why the coach did that but later I discovered that Wakaso got hurt and could continue the game. Pulling a thigh muscle wouldn't have helped the player to score a penalty. An evidence was brought to scene when this same player missed a penalty that would have given us an opportunity to win the third place in this same tournament.

Therefore, what makes you think that if Wakaso was to be left to continue the Burkina Faso match, he would have been able to score his penalty?

I do agree with you that Appiah has no experience and lacks the technique to coach a national team. I also know that the amount he is receiving during building of this team is the cheapest we could get. Not that we already have the team and need an expensive coach to take us to the next level. We don't have the team. Any coach that will come in position right now would be building like Appiah is doing, though, will charge us three time what Appiah is charging us. We were complaining about the country not having the money to hire another foreign coach. Therefore, where do you expect us to get and get that amount to give to a coach who would be doing the same thing Appiah is doing?

Are you telling me the coach instructed them not to try and keep possessions? If not, then why these players could keep possessions of the ball? Why the midfield department broke down during all the matches we played with the exception of the Niger match? To me, I didn't see any experienced performances in any of the players. The defenders were just kicking the balls out instead of trying to keep the balls. When doing that, the pressure kept pilling on them.

Inexperience is what I could come out with. Therefore, even though, I agree with you on couple of your points, I do disagree with you on most.

That was why I brought in the 2006 AFCON squad performance in comparison to that of the 2013 squad performance. Therefore, go back and read it again.

Here is my question. From that 2006 AFCON poor performance, what happened to that squad during the 2006 WC? How did you see that team in their first time in the WC? This is what I want you and Slimzee to realized that for the fact that the 2013 squad didn't do that well in the AFCON, that doesn't mean they would continue to perform poor in the coming tournaments. That was why I brought in the 2006 squad and its fluctuated performances.

Appiah is staying whether you like it or not and so is the GFA. You advocated for the coach and the job was given to him. Now you want him to be fired. Where we you when Duya flopped so bad during the 2006 AFCON? Why wasn't he fired? Can you answer me that?

Certain penalties we had in other circumstances may be ignored. yes in 2006 we did not qualify from the group stages, but look at the trend, 2006 worldcup round of 16, 2008 Afcon 3rd, 2010 Afcon 2nd, 2010 worldcup quarter finals, 2012 Afcon 4th with a better display, 2013 Afcon 4th with a terrible display. When you plot the curve how does it look like. We are already struggling to qualify for the worldcup 2014. I Don't mind having a local coach but if he underperforms he ought to be changed. Can you pinpoint a particular technical decision that AA did which he should be applauded for? Match after match we criticized decisions he made. I was in flight that is why i'm now responding to this. Hope you do see it and give me your opinion. But in my opinion, I have seen better Ghanaian Coaches that AA.

If you go back to my comments, when Appiah was made the head coach, you will realize that I was one of the people who didn't agree with the decision of handing the higher seat to Kwasi Appiah as the coach. I was the one who gave him 10yrs to come into the big scene because I didn't believe he could have made it in six of eight years. I mean, I thought it was going to take 10 years for Appiah to become a good coach.

However, when the post was given to him, I questioned that decision but later gave up. I gave up because I was willing to give him the chance to learn from his mistakes and with what I'm seeing, he is learning fast from his mistakes though went back and made the same mistake he made in the first match against DR Conger, when John Pantsil got hurt during our Burkina Faso's encounter. I didn't have confidence in him in terms of how to map his games and how to rotate his players and I still don't because he came out short in these areas of coaching. Moreover, all the test I set for him to pass for me to gain confidence in him, he failed.

In the process of all these, though, I discovered something in him. He is strict, meaning when he say something, he stands by it. Secondly, when he fails, he has the decency to apologize. This shows humility and few coaches and even few human beings obtain this quality. How many coaches have we seen apologizing to the public after a poor performance. Fourth, he has demonstrated that he has the vision to build. In other words, he gives chances to even the un-noticed.

I have no clue who are the agents for Solomon Asante and Dauda, but if I were these agents, these players wouldn't be playing in the Glo Premiership anymore. Their clips would have been everywhere in the four major leagues in the world. All I'm saying is, Appiah discovered these players and, therefore, has demonstrated something most of us didn't know he had.

With this, my confidence level in him to build a team is at least at its higher lever. Contrary, my question is can he take an already built squad to the next level? This is my dilemma and I believe most people are struggling with it too.

Here is another case of study, if we refused to give him the opportunity to build, we may end up paying another coach big money, I mean three times of what Appiah is making, to build something Appiah is already doing. Would that be good thing to do? Think about it, bro.

It might take sometime but remember, Rome was not built in a day. "Nkakra nkakra"and we'll surely get there. Over reliance on foreign coaches is the reason why Ghana is lacking very good coaches now hence, the need to start all over again. Need to raise some more C.K. The way our local teams are managed or run is arcane and crude. Sports is now a big business with investors and responsible stake holders. Teams like Kotoko, Hearts, Olympics etc need to be reorganized to meet the standard that is presently practiced across the world. If not countries like Vanuatu, Bhutan, Nepal and Papua New Guinea will beat us to the game we love and passionate about.

Personally, I don’t know and have never met this character Kwasi Nyantakyi, however, he strikes me as an arrogant bully, full of disdain and disrespect for the tax-payers (in this case the Ghanaian people) who pay his salary. Instead of being contrite and apologetic for the poor performances of his appointed coach Akwasi Appiah, he’s busy dictating to the nation what his ward’s faith is going to be, regardless of public opinion. I think he’s stoking the fire of the public’s anger and frustration towards the coach even worse.

His statement of “firing coaches is not the panacea of the team’s poor show” is a direct contradiction to his admission that his chosen coach Appiah lacks the necessary skills i.e. “his outfit will do its best to strengthen the capacity of the coach” to be the head coach of the Black Stars. I am not calling for the firing of the coach, but, neither am I going to condone double standard for performance evaluation of how he’s doing his job. I don’t recall Nyantakyi making this argument when he sent the last Serbian coach packing. I am a firm believer, the Black Stars have to have an African coach, preferable a Ghanaian, but, I’m not in support of lowering our expectations towards our goal just because he’s an African……No! What’s the incentive for Coach Appiah to try harder when his job security is virtual guaranteed by Nyantakyi. Constructive criticism is in order, considering the trade-off and sacrifices being made by the less privileged Ghanaian; the only way the investment is justifiable is when the team is winning and winning big.

Akwasi Appiah has admitted during a press conference “I made some tactical errors in the course of the competition. I have learnt very useful lessons from the experience in South Africa and I hope to correct such mistakes for the good of the team in future,” he stated. I’m not one to stump on a fallen victim and neither am I infallible, so I accept his apology. However, there is a saying “uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.” And in this case managing the Golden jewel, the pride and joy of a nation, the Black Stars, Nyantakyi should have anticipated this coming, particularly when one considers the fiscal constraints on the country’s budget. The team camped in Dubai before going to South Africa and I can bet the money spent could have built some schools in our villages. The more reason Ghanaians get frustrated when we don’t get anything in return; the expenditures made in Dubai could have been better spent to camp the team at home, I wonder what Dubai has in common with South Africa in terms of weather, football or facilities? What is the point of spending millions renovating our stadiums and hosting AFCON if we can’t use them later to camp the national team?

The more I read statements such as these coming from this character, the more I’m inclined to believe Coach Appiah is not in complete control of the national team. I’m not sure Kwasi Nyantakyi fully appreciate the enormity of the prestige, respect, joy and goodwill gained by Ghana at the dawn of Black Stars two great performances at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, particularly here in the U.S.; after twice eliminating them from the competitions. Ghana overnight gained recognition, admiration and respect here in the U.S. and for once we didn’t have to explain where Ghana was on the global map to our colleagues at work or at home and you walked around with your chest puff up. This is the fame and popularity Ghana gained that our gold and cocoa couldn’t buy us; that’s what it means to us when the Black Stars are performing poorly and I’m certain this sentiment is not an outlier.

Ex-President Kufour sold Ghana Telcom and JJ Rawlings sold Nsawan Canneries to his darling Nana Konadu. Bottom line? Ghana must sell Kwasi Appiah, Nyantakyi and the Black Stars to foreign investors. My plea to the GFA is to stop the politics concerning who the Ghana Black Stars coach should be at this moment after AFCON. My suggestions are: 1) to go for MILO, 2) send Akwasi Appiah for a coaching course and 3) keep KONADU as the Assistant coach of MILO.
Akwasi Appiah had been given this opportunity for 11years; is time for him to move on, for Konadu to have this chance to enhance his success as a coach, with compliments to what he achieved with with Ashanti Kotoko.
Milo given the chance once more, would be a wise thing to do now; he knows the Ghanaian style of play, and with players now at hand, one would think with the little twist, our team can be well equipped to face any team for the WC.
