I am sure Essien last played for the Black Stars in January 2010 in Angola where he featured 45 minutes and got injured. Before then he had not featured with the Black Stars for a while.

He has only featured a few times for Ghana since he got injured in Libya (08/06/2008) after having a good tournament at CAN2008.

I do not think we should have any hopes of him playing for the Stars in the near future (and since he is getting old, maybe never again). He already paid his due from 2002 to 2008 (although he was missing at the CAN 2006 tournament where he chose Chelsea over Ghana).

Michael Essien, as "an asshole like you", is allowed to walk the streets of Ghana, freely and not be ashamed of himself. Such a person is not even fit to be called a Ghanaian.
I would sincerely want to know what such an individual has done for his village, or little town where he was born, much more for his country Ghana?
They say "it is the empty barrel that makes the most noise". If (jb), or any other person has done what Essien has done for Ghana, and so has the audacity to criticize an icon like Essien in such uncivilized words, they should come out with their credentials. I repeat "those who know little, always criticize most". I don't benefit from the fat salaries of the present generation of footballers; I always maintain that my generation of footballers played better than now because they had no scientific training and back up that exist today; it does not mean that players of today do not get injuries etc.,while devoting more time to training.
My main point is that, if Honourable people like Mike Gizo and others who matter, have taken it on themselves to tackle an important angle to help correct our failure in the game, and are working towards a possible solution, all we need is full cooperation from all quarters to achieve success.
It is a shame for "small minds" like that (jb), to be allowed to muddy the water.
I first met Michael Essien at a GUBA Ceremony in London; he was adored,we never even spoke (I noticed he never spoke much), and if a person is a Patriot to GUBA, who is jb to insult him using such filthy language?

This is not politics but as the subject has now eaten so much into our system, we do nothing without making some reference; even if The Black Stars lose a match we blame a political party.
There is nothing better than sitting down at a table and delving into the cause of a problem. I do not find any problem in forming an enquiry into the problem with our National Football Team. I always say "Kwame Nkrumah saw the potentials of Ghana Football (long before Pele did African football), that he appointed one man solely to handle it"; and there was no intermediary between the two! And those who were alive saw the results.
There is fire without first a smoke; if we see the smoke now, and take no caution, we may regret when it is too late. An those of us who live, sleep and dream football will retire to our graves still wiping our tears!

In my opinion, there are so many issues of urgent concern with management of our national team, and untill those hurdles are sprung over, Ghanaians will constantly endure BROKEN HEARTS. The GFA is not on the MOON but in Ghana, and the management must be held ransom for all the mishaps.

This is welcome news. Essien is needed to have a formidable team. The GFA should do all it takes to bring in all our top players who did not go to South Africa. Players like John Mensah, Sulley Muntari, Dede and Jordan must return to the fold. Also, Kelvin Boateng should be made to return as well as striker Majeed Waris.
It is not possible to have your best possible team if you exclude some of your best players. The GFA and the coach should know that it is leadership failure when some of your best players are excluded from the team. Trying to achieve the ultimate with just huge monetary motivation and propaganda without considering player quality is useless. That was the reason we could not do better than what we did in South Africa -- a hopeless 4th position.

We should have only the boys who represented us in the AFCON to vie for the world cup finals. Those boys are maturing and I don't think it will be fair to re-introduce any new faces into the squad. The squad we have is young, energetic and willing to die for the Nation (that is why they were willing to play on those turfs that Essien and co refuse to play on). Its their choice, they are looking after themselves. Fine, let them go and look after themselves.

Let’s rather use our efforts and resources on present squad. If these are the best players that Ghana have, then so be it. F**k all those. I have always indicated that at the national level it’s the desire, the commitment and the willing to die attitude of the players that bring honours. The skill and technical ability level of these players are not too wide apart. If one adds the level of commitment, then any player playing in a regular team in any sort of high-ish level of league will do for the Black Stars. We don’t need to go cup-in-hand begging players to come and play. Let the coach put the invitation out there. Those who are willing to come, we work with them and they represent Ghana soccer. Even if we go and don’t win the cup, the whole world will do that Ghanaians love their country and are patriotic that is what sports at the national level is all about. But after that we should look after these players. I have said it before, unlike players like Abedi and Anthony Yeboah and a few others whose rise to prominence was through their personal endeavours, the likes of Essien and co had been sponsored by the State since they were sixteen and today they turn their backs on us. He is playing for real Madrid so what?

So, after reading thru Jordan, Dede, and Essien articles and looking back to Gyan, Muntari, Appiah and K. P Boateng it is crystally clear that most of the issues and problems in the national team is managerial. Few of them could be attributed to the players but that is why we have "MANAGERS" to deal tactfully, resolve the issues and foster a team spirit for success. Apparently, that is lacking in our system. It is impottant to have a dual mindset to manage and merge both the local and foreign players and that requires someone with both skills and experience. It is erroneous to assume that b'cos the foreign palyer were/are Ghanaians they should be treated as local players. It is easy for people leaving in Ghana to say that. But if you have lived quite long outside you will see the sence in what I'm saying. For this reason I have long advocated for Dasaily to be the head coach while Appiah should be assistant focussing on defence for which he has experience.
Now we have a big task of not only solving this problem but also figure out how to prevent it from happening again and readying ourselves for the world cup campaign.
WE HAVE LOST A GREAT OPPORTUNITY OF BRINGING HOME THE AFCON CUP.
I'm fully convinced that had Muntari, Dede and Essien been in the squad the results would have been diffrent but all these players are somehow pissed off one way or the other at MANAGEMENT.
Let the GFA mamagement fix this or be retrenched/redeployed ( as Rawlings will have us take it).
