This strategy must be re-examined. I mean playing "serious" trial matches prior to a tournament. It looks very good from the angle of preparing the team for the tournament.
But the other side of the story is that, players get injured as they try to impress for selection. The effect is that, the team gets drained during the tournament proper. Also, the team's strength is made known to its opponents. For instance prior to the U20 tournament in Algeria, we had the chance to play the U20 of Egypt in a trial match. The Egyptians were beaten 2-0 but this was an eye opener to them as they almost completely overhauled their team with fresh additions. And the result was what happened in Algeria - their team was too strong to beat. Egypt won the tournament because Ghana had played them in a friendly match.
Before the AFCON 2013 in South Africa, we played trial matches with Gabon, Egypt etc with brilliant results thus giving us the false belief that we were ready. But the truth was that, those matches rather drained us leaving some of the players too injured to even play. No doubt, we degassed at the semi-final stage.
I suggest we stop playing such "serious" friendly matches prior to a major tournament because of their negative effect on the team during the real tournament.

FC Gossau is actually in the 1st League Classic, not the Swiss Challenge League. It has been two years since they were in the Challenge League (2nd Division) they have experienced two seasons of relegation. The 1st League Classic is actually the 4th Division of the Swiss league system. In fact they are only three points away from the drop zone. This is a team that any U17 team should beat.
