You don't need to sell players unnecessarily in a team like Kotoko if there is proper management. The problem is, while fans see Kotoko as a cult, people like Sarpong see it as a business entity. This is why there is always a conflict between the leadership and the fans of this great soccer team.

I think whether they are ill-literates is beside the point, Kotoko cannot expect to maintain a top flight African Club side status and yet be a nursery for selling players like Arsenal. You can only be either of the two.

Sometimes, you have to sacrifice at the beginning to win big (like the Champions League) and then get much more money when you sell the same players later...

With its population of 24 million and less than a million graduates Ghana is still classified as illiterate community. Dr Sarpong is dead right on this issue.

It's not enough as the Manager/Chairman to think of selling good players as the only means of raising funds. How then do you expect to win trophies if you sell all your good players for money?

Here there are many stakeholders including the management, playing body, patrons, and the large supporters. And so while you want to make as much profit as possible, you also have to win trophies. So you cite Newcastle and Arsenal. Why don't cite the other clubs that are winning trophies like Man U, Barcelona, Real Madrid, etc. Yes those teams also sell good players but most of the times, either they are sold after those players have stayed for much longer time and won some silverware, or they are not good fit for the club... There should be a balance of selling some players while retaining some to compete at the highest level.

If you care not to understand what I've said over and over again, I need to respond to your postings. I hold and MBA in Finance and so I am knowledgeable about Business Management and Profits side of business. But if you care to know, now businesses run on other models like the Triple Bottom Line Model - Financial, Social and Environmental effects of a firm's policies on their business (profits), the people and the planet.

So my brother, profit is just one side of the equations, and for sports in particular, there many parameters to evaluate their success.

there's so much illiteracy going on in this country it's scary. these days "journalists don't even speak english anymore. while the rest of the world is busy learning english, the majority of our countrymen have resorted to twi. English is the universal language nowadays and we're lucky to have it as our official language but nowadays a lot of younger generation of ghanaian are not fluent in the language anymore. this i believe is due to the massive inlfux of Kumasianos (who refuse to learn/speak other languages even english) into some large areas. i mean what do u expect u go to university campuses in kumasi and it feels like u are in kejetia's roasted rat market. u turn on the radio and its full of empty headed cocoase farmers claiming to be pundits/announcers, reporters/presenters. To the extent that even when anyone don't speak it, native twi speakers consider u as not- ghanaian enough..foolishness of the highest order!!!
