First of all, not all those who hailed the return of these guys think their inclusion in the team will 'increase' Ghana's chances. Some of us believe that if all of Ghana's active players are available for selection, the coach has great lee way in choosing whatever formation he wants to play. It is healthy for Ghana soccer but may not necessarily lead to an 'increase' in Ghana's chances.

Secondly, the delegations that tried to convince these players to rescind their decision did not do so because they think these guys have been wronged. They did so because they think these guys have done something for the country and must be encouraged to make themselves available to the national team in their own interest and in the interest of the nation. Everybody knows that a player's inclusion in his national team increases his chances of getting a good contract. Also, the nation benefits by having a wide range of players to choose from. Bear in mind that these players will not be automatically included in upcoming games. They still have to justify their inclusion.

These players after being nurtured and groomed by Ghana feel they are above the dictates of the authorities of the Ghana Football Association because they are internationals, making big money therefore figure they should be treated differently than all others!

Ghana should not be cowed into begging any player to play for the BLACK STARS. Is it an honor to wear the colors of the Blacks Stars and oh by the way it is great for the individual players to add that to their resumes!
Disrespecting your nation's call to duty is like disrespecting your mother's call. Shame on them. Now that the team is closer to qualifying they want to sneak back in and take advantage of those who did the hard work. For a hundred years the team does not need these trouble making players.

Their inclusion does not guarantee that Ghana will qualify. I for sure know that their inclusion will bring disunity. Ghana does not want history to repeat itself. (Abedi Pele's era)
It is a honour to play for your nation but these mercenaries think otherwise.
Who should play to qualify for others to enjoy.
Mr. AA must be very careful here.

I'm sorry for an introduction that may appear to some as a digression but my point is that our greatest problem as a nation is that we've so far failed to recognize our mistakes and miserably failed ourselves, whether it's politics,economy,government, sports, etc. because we keep repeating those same mistakes.We can't be wrong and get it right.
Abedi Pele quit the BS in the early 1990s and a select group of Parliamentarians had to leave their paid jobs to go and plead for his return.Did his return change anything? No! It was wrong for him to quit in the first place and his return should have been on the coach's and GFA's terms.
Playing for the national team is an honor, pride and privilege and that's the dream of every true sportsman, professional or amateur. It's not anybody's right neither is it an inheritance but rather it's something that must be earned through hardwork and discipline.
Successful national team building effort requires great dedication and massive doses of discipline among the team members and any act of insubordination must never be countenanced in any degree. To err is human so errors of judgement would occur every now and then. Should we forgive errant team members? Why not but not until after a show of remorse from the errant team member. We're sending the wrong signals if it has to take the GFA,any group of persons,the entire nation or worse still the President to beg, plead or persuade the errant player to return to the fold.
Essien, Kevin, Andre, Jordan, Asamoah Gyan are players we love and admire but they should not take that as a weakness for them to exploit. The BS team is a national asset and none should use it as a revolving door whenever it suits their bloated egos.Any leave of absence must be applied for by the player and must be approved by the GFA and the team's coaching staff and doctor(s). Any french leave must be considered as a permanent bye bye.
The coach is like the commander of an elite army unit.He must be respected and obeyed at all times but his services can be dispensed of if he does not meet expectations and terms of his employment.The players are his soldiers and everyone of them must play the part assigned them by the coach(commander) with precision before the team can succeed. I'm done.

Your article covered delegate interventions, including the president's; player egos; divided fans or schools of thought; opportunistic-type players; national duty (although you didn't mention the role of "dual nationality," such as another nation spending their resources to train their sons and daughters who then choose to play for another country); players trying to revive failing careers, etc.

But, you failed to mention the main causes of all these, such as incompetent administration, bribery, tribalism, coaches being out of touch with modern player management, which breeds conflicts for players coming from different systems and environments.

In any event, I applaud your effort of bringing out some of these issues. But, I think you should have expanded it a bit.

If players feel too big or better than their team mates/coaches etc....they should not be entertained. Players should have a healthy balance of confidence and humility and have a unifying spirit....Great Coaches and "Managers" know how to level and manage huge egos. They dont allow the situation where some players feel left out or belittled. If only each member of the team,including coaches, managers, the GFA, has this "team-building" spirit in mind (and not have a "i am better than" or " he is better than" atmosphere), we will be playing so much better and achieving greater feats.

And even if we ualify, we need a more composed team to fo to the world cup. The Satelites have shown us that we rely on local/unknown players at our own peril.

I wonder why these journalist refuse to hold the FA responsible for any of these issues.
Dude, you want the players to admit claim some responsibility. My question to you and most of your colleagues is, has nay of you ask the same of that GFA organization?
This isn't the first time these issues have cropped up. The one common entity in all of the player issues is the FA.
Perhaps they aren't doing certain things right. You all should also ask them to be more professional in their handling of the Black Stars. Not just the players.

So why wasn't this an issue when Asa Djan resigned and came back to be rewarded with the Captaincy?. Is it b'cos we dont like the Ayews already and were waiting for an excuse to clear them ?
