Ghana and other parts of West Africa, will on November 3, 2013, experience a partial hybrid solar eclipse.
A partial hybrid solar eclipse is an eclipse, where there is a maximum partial cover of the Sun by the Moon.
It will happen at 22 minutes after 1 p.m. that day, barring any rains or cloudy weather, Ghanaians will see the normal afternoon sunny light being dimmed to evening for about one-and-half minutes, when the face of the sun would be covered 80-85 per cent by the Moon.
The rare phenomenon, was disclosed by Prof Emmanuel Amamoo-Otchere, who was formerly the Executive Director of the Centre for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (CERSGIS) of the University of Ghana, Legon. He is now a member of the African Astronomical Society.
He said, the rare occurrence had been known for some time, but had to be confirmed by partners such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which has diagrams of the phenomenon on its website.
The last time Ghana experienced an eclipse was on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, and that was a total one, which occurred from 8.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m across the country.
Briefing the Daily Graphic, Prof Amamoo-Otchere, who spearheaded information dissemination on the rare occurrence in 2006 when he headed CERSGIS, said it was important for Ghanaians to be aware of what was to happen and protect their sight on that day.
He said all needed shades to view the phenomenon as was done in 2006.
"There will be partial darkness, similar to dusk, and the eclipse will be seen in Eastern America, sliding to West Africa and finally dissipating in Central Africa," Prof Amamoo-Otchere said.
"Those along the coast, from Half Assini to Aflao, will experience a wave of darkness in the skyline for a duration of a minute or two. He said inland, the phenomenon would be experienced in the northern parts of the country, as far as Burkina Faso," he added.
Prof Amamoo-Otchere said what was not certain was animal behaviour at the time of the eclipse, but he said it was likely that for the split moment of darkness, some birds would change direction in flight.
"It is possible to see some twinkling stars and some planets," he added.
Prof Amamoo-Otchere said for him, the phenomenon showed that there was a super engineer, that is God, who was super precise in all his doings and was still working.
He said, it also showed the scientific skill of man in calculating the point at which the Sun, Earth and Moon aligned, that resulted in one blocking the other.

I think koo nana has picked his to replace John Boye even if Lee Addy wouldn't start, he could be there as a substitute, and I second that. Come to Croatia and you will see how good Lee if performing.
Though he is a back up in his club, so has played 6 matches instead of 11 matches. The 6 matches he has played, he played a total of 537 minutes. You can say that he has almost played the whole 90 minutes for every match he started. Remember, his total matches played should be 540 (plus) minutes. Therefore, he has missed only 6 (plus) minutes from that 6 games to played. I think that is not bad.
I will not be surprise to hear him been called to the squad unless Kwasi Appiah wants to go into the tournament with 24 players. Awal Mohammed or Sumaila Mohammed can also step into this position comfortably. This is why I don't think the coach would call anyone again.
Anyway, pala, who is your choice? We are here to hear yours too.

my choices are nuhu sule, or joseph attamah, or dan addo(under20 world cup winning team) good statistics on lee addy at club level but i think in national team colours he appears to me not ready to accept responsibility. he seemed wanting to be playing on the pheriphery. he does not look confident enough but he seemed enthusiastic. i don't even like him playing the left full back. he creates the impression he is doing so much but actually does little at that position. he will overlap with gasto as if something is going to happen

On the contrary, you can't be serous to compare Nuhu Sulemana, Joseph Attamah and Daniel Addo to Lee Addy. Even the U-20 WC 2009, Daniel Addo was constantly shaking in that position if it wasn't Jonathan Mensah who was covering him, we would have been in trouble.
If you are taking about defenders who don't know their roles in matches, then you will have to point to Daniel Addo and Attamah. The just ended U-20 WC, Ghana against France, July the 10th, 2013, the match we lost 2-1, why do you think Attamah wasn't allowed to play by the technical team? The guy messed up in our fist match in the group stage against France, Jun 21th, 2013. What was Attamah's role in that match? Wasn't he one of the central defenders for Ghana? In this match, he was paired with L. Lartey. Does the name Thauvin rings a bell? He was Joseph Attamah's nightmare and you want the whole nation to put our main central defensive position in the hands of an inexperienced player like Attamah?
Please, pala, these players you mentioned are young in the game. They have no experience. You saw how Baba Rahmah played with confidence? He plays the same with his club. Those are the players needed when it comes to a match like the one coming up.
Good choice though, I understand you. However, I will pick Lee Addy over those young players you mentioned for that position at any day.

How about switching allowing Awal and Akaminko to play the central defense, I mean traditional 4&5. Bring Michael Essien to the right full-back and allow Daniel Opare to sit at the bench as a substitute to both the right-full backer and also to the right central defender?
You may be wondering that who would take the defensive midfield then, if we are deploying Essien to that position, to pair with Kwedwo Asamoah? For our defensive mid we have few in the names of Wakaso Mubarrak, Emmanuel Agyman Badu, and even Sulley Ali Muntari, all can play there.
