Their name was on the original 8-team list. Gabon offered to replace them after they've pulled out. Gabon is not part of West Africa.

I think that instead of making it a competition, the local Black Stars should be playing friendlies against other local African teams and some of the weaker Middle East and Asian teams. Why not invite national teams like Qatar, UAE and the like to come and play the local Black Stars in Ghana. These could be interesting and entertaining games. Why not use the stadiums that have been built. Tamale and Takoradi have been underutilized.
