Inasmuch as your concerns are felt, what i want to know is when did it became GHANAIAN (Akan) tradition to keep the deceased so long? In some circumstances, let's assume that one is rich, then the dead can be kept as long as one wishes prior to the burial ceremony, but what we see and witness nowadays is dead bodies being kept so long before burial, although some families/relatives are very poor, accruing huge debts during and after burial and funeral rites.

Here's is a case of a friend of mine who went home recently for her dad's funeral. Infact, the family/ abusuapanyin after having come to agreement to keep the dead body in the mortuary for about 2 months and also having agreed to take their part of responsibility in terms of expenses, refused to honour their promise as soon as the lady arrived in Ghana, and so was made to bear all the expenses.I think some family members are enriching themselves at the expense of the dead, too!

In Essien's case, because he's rich and would probably bear all the funeral costs it might be taken into consideration as to when he could travel home to honour/bury his dead father.

My heartfelt condolence to Essien and a peaceful burial/funeral ceremony.

You cannot just leave your job when living in USA or abroad. And they prob had to coordinate for all important people to make it home to ghana . That is my guess

He is going to spend more money on the lifeless body than when it was alive.And to add insult to an injury the mother may be there to shed crocodile tears.Posterity will judge you all.Just allow the dead to bury the dead and leave the departed old man alone.I believe you will have the nerve to read an orbituary or sing a dirge in his honour as if you showed him any honour when he was a living being.Some of us do not have short memories.We just try to let sleeping dogs lie.Whoever brought this article did you no good.Teach your childen not to repeat your mistake and beg the old man for forgiveness,if only he will hear,since we have no means knowing.I shall be at the funeral to assist you,until then,let me continue mourning for Uncle James till we meet again.
