Much as I think that any coach that has to manage a team at the international competitive level today, requires more than the skills that Coach Appiah has, I nevertheless think that it would be a travesty of justice, moral virtue and managerial discretion of the highest order to relegate Coach Appiahs significant efforts in getting the Black Stars to where they have now reached, in favor of some unseen opportunistic forces and interests.

First of all, such an unlikely action would considerably destabilize the precious emotional cohesion that Appiah has built in the team and around his personality. Should it so happen, this would in turn cause unsettling ripples in the team spirit.

Now for a team sport like football, in which the element of team spirit is of unsurpassable and irreplaceable importance, the effect would be disastrous in a major competition like the World Cup.

For the Black Stars to perform creditably in a global competition like the impending World Cup, they need to harness total team confidence and convert it into a very high dose of team spirit to counteract and make up for their relative poverty of technical skills.

Having said this, I also however insist that no Technical Director of the highest credentials from Europe or anywhere, should now be belatedly smuggled into the team management structure to as it were, infuse the valuable substance of technical competence into the Black Stars team within the space of the few months prior to the World Cup. It just simply won’t work because it is too late for this.

If anything at all, such an awkward and irresponsible proposal has the propensity to rather create management disorder, instability and confusion in the team, particularly after all the heated discord on the subject in the public domain over the past few weeks.

This proposition of a Technical Director, coming from a sponsor who incidentally is a major state institution that on the books, should technically not be in a financially healthy enough position to sponsor the Black Stars, suggests that this dubious scheme is probably emanating, after some serious arm-twisting, from the highest levels of govt.

Seeing that the ultimate interest of the shadowy characters is not necessarily in seeing the Black Stars advance as far as possible - and if possible win the World Cup, the stroppy proposition of a Technical Director bears the hallmarks of a potential horse-trading scam that is aimed at benefitting the create, loot and share brigade. There cannot be any other plausible reason. This misdeed amounts to Political interference of a kind that seems to be more refined and discreet.

That the GFA has also not come out fighting against or for this proposition suggests that they have, in the usual manner of the skullduggery of the powers that be, been cornered into total subservience and inaction.
