Because the few opportunities they got, our defense crumbled very easily. If the defense had held their own, the game would have opened up with the US looking for goals, which would have opened the game up for us to convert at least 2-3 of the over maybe 50 chances we would have created. An ironclad defense with attacking midfield holders should create room for the forwards to be innovative upfront with converting chances.

John Boye was rubbish yesterday even though I must admit he has played well in the past for Ghana. I don't know what was wrong with him yesterday. All the two goals that we conceded were his mistakes. He failed to tackle Clint Dempsey strongly for the first goal. He did almost looked like he was joking with him. And the second goal, he failed to mark Brooks when we conceded the corner kick. He didn't even jump with Brooks thereby gifting him a free header to the post and that is why he scored.
In our next game, Kwasi Appiah has to start with Rashid Sumaila who is a very tough tackling defender in place of Boye. We'll also want KPB, Essien, and Muntari to start ahead of all the inexperienced players that he used yesterday.

For the first goal Boye should have stood his ground and forced Dempsey to go wide towards the goal line, thus narrowing the angle for the shot, which would most likely have ended in a goal kick, or at worst a corner. Instead he was there skipping. Dempsey cut back in, and had the whole goal to aim at. In such a situation, the striker is expected to score, so not the keepers fault. It was all John Boye's fault.
Having said that, we come back to our problem that I have been crying about for a long time now...... we need to score more goals......everybody was crying about defence before the tournament, but we played for 94 minutes after the goal was conceeded and we only scored 1 goal.

Despite Ghana's defeat by USA a few things are worth pointing out; and this is just an observation, but you can decide for yourself.
1. Essien was seen walking over to shake the US coache's hand when the game was in play (Essien, show some loyalty when on the field. You can wait and be nice after the game or off camera. Shame on you).
2. KP Boateng was exchanging pleasantries with the US shot-stopper - Howard - when Ghana was about to take a corner kick. (KPB, you were mad because you were benched initially. Do not be full of yourself, show some maturity and play your best always. Attitude is everything).
KP also seemed dejected during the game - sending the ball over the goal post a few times - which was very uncharacteristic of him. A careful look, and you could see his negative / un-enthused attitude on the field.
3. I believe the coach made a colossal tactical error in not putting forward his seasoned best players from the start.
In soccer, the ultimate high point is goal points, short of any bad play and un-sportsmanship attitude on the field.
So the coach should have had all of his best players up on the field from the start to make an initial difference. The US did just that and won, albeit not too impressive play.
Just like in successful military engagement of an opponent - an initial overwhelming fire power towards the enemy cuts the enemy's chances of victory.
Any lessons learnt here - coach, and players?
Re-energize yourselves and play well until the last whistle, players.

We lost the game in the selection od players. The manager under-estimated USA. Why should we field Jordan, Atsu, Rabui, and leave out Essien, Boateng and Waris in an opening game at a world cup stage? I blame the manager. He considered the match as a firendly game where players can be tried. How can Portugal play without Ronaldo? Do you think Germany will play Ghana without their key players? We are joking. At the world cup, there are no times for messing about. We paid dearly due to our starting line up. Please dont get me wrong - I am not saying Jordan, Atsu and Rabiu are not good players. What I am saying is, play your best and experienced players, and then after, you can make changes as the game gets to the dead end. Currently, we are in trouble, however, I know we can deliver. Akwasi, do the right thing becasue the world cup level is not a trying arena.

Coach Appiah shot himself in the foot….I told him don’t use fresh “green“players to start but experienced ones and the silent killer did not listen..Why use “hatred” to make your selections? Which means if he coach AA likes you then you will get the nod but if he doesn’t like you his ‘silent killer’ instinct will work on you. The experiments are too much..by now he should have his best 11coupled with experienced…Why do you sit KPBoateng, Essien, Agyemang Badu[good job on qualifying series], Inkoom, Afful..How do you underestimate these guys and field Rabiu and others to experiment…Jordan is good but don’t start him ahead of KPB..introduce him later and he will definitely perform ”try and error”coach???..because Agyemang Badu will not fight back like Sulley .. Akwasi Appiah has always overlook him…why do you think coach Milo prefers Agyeman Badu above coach AA’s favorite Rabiu?.Rabiu is trying his best but not well organized in the midfield ..just “buga buga de karifi” without vision…Badu or Essien just one pass upfront will cause havoc…. Why will coach AA field Muntari and Rabiu who can not hold the ball in the midfield??? ???How many trial or international friendly matches did his darling Opare play? Inkoom has been in “wars” to get experience..African cup of nations..3 world cups now..why leave him for “lazy” Opare? Coach AA must read games properly..why did he bring Adomah his favoritewhen he needed goals or to tighten the midfield…..for what?..just to come and ran??? Why experiment KASAM who is now a playmaker and left Afful? In fact there are more questions than answers…huh.. He should have fielded the experienced players ahead of the young ones and introduce them gradually…Coach AA stop starting the rising stars by heart to kill their confidence because they will be frustrated..just introduce them one by one in the course of the game and they will perform..so now what Akwasi is doing just select any 11 for a match? “player competition strategy???..Try to get your first 11 now..I even said use Ghana vrs Egypt set and strategy could have worked but he did not listen…Coach AA..don’t think you have reached levels so you will not listen and become stiff necked….you are a try and error coach so listen to the advise..
All is not lost yet, the Black Stars can arise and shine..They have to pause for a while for a sober reflections and forgive one another for the unfortunate mistakes ASAP…Coach AA must now look beyond favoritism and stop experimenting ASAP and count on experienced to move forward.
@ Gyan you are good but improve upon your headings in front of goal..”head downwards direction as if you want it to hit the ground” If you do it this way you can hit your target…..all your headings were up over the bar

If you read my comments here everyday you will see how I warned Ghanaians that if Jordan was used and Prince Boateng, Essien were benched Ghana had no chance against USA. Ghana has talented players but we will fall a victim to our own coach inability to apply common sense. In 2010, we won against Serbia, Serbia won against Germany and we lost against Germany by only 1-0. Even though I knew this stupid coach would make us lose the game against USA, I couldn't believe how hesitant he was in his substitutions. Being said that, I don't think Germany has been fully tested even though they beat Portugal. We don't have to go into the game thinking that they're more superior than us. We can definitely have a chance against Germany if our defense is restructured and the coach starts with Michael Essien and P. Boateng. K. Asamoah should be moved to midfield and Atsu should be switching back and forth with is wing counterpart. A stronger midfield would help reduce the pressure on our defense. This world cup I think all the teams can be beaten but the team with strong mental preparedness and 90 minutes of focused strategy would carry the day.
