Kevin-Prince Boateng has hit back at the Ghana Football Association after being sent home early from the World Cup, describing the Black Stars’ organisation during the tournament in Brazil as “amateurish”.

The Schalke midfielder and team-mate Sulley Muntari were expelled from the Ghana squad on the day of their final match against Portugal after Boateng was accused of making “vulgar verbal insults” towards coach James Appiah. Muntari was also accused of an “unprovoked physical attack” on a member of the Ghana FA, with both players asked to leave the camp before the 2-1 defeat to Portugal in Brasília which consigned them to bottom spot in Group G.

Boateng – who only returned to the Black Stars’ set-up last year having retired from international football after the last World Cup – is now back at his home in Germany. In an interview with newspaper Bild published on Sunday, he accuses the GFA of having failed to live up to promises it made to him before the tournament.

“Everything – the hotels, the flights – everything was amateurish,” he said.

“The GFA president visited me in Milan begging me to play for Ghana again. He gave me his word that we would have better travel, better organisation and preparation. He has not kept his word. In the end I was just still dissatisfied.

“It was a nightmare from the first day of the preparation to the end,” Boateng added. “We flew to the first training camp from Amsterdam to Miami. However, we travelled in two groups, since there was no space. One group flew through Atlanta, the other New York. We sat for around nine hours at the airport - a total of 19 hours on the road.

“The flight from Miami to Brazil a week later took 12 hours and we sat and concentrated in economy class. The legs ached. It sounds strange for an average citizen, but for a competitive athlete that is a disgrace. The Ghana FA president sat in business class with his wife and two children. And then in Brazil, we finally had a charter flight but my luggage was lost. Two days without football boots – it was a disaster.”

Appiah was the first homegrown coach to lead Ghana to a World Cup. But asked his opinion on whether he had a clue about tactics, Boateng gave a less than ringing endorsement. “No. But I have respect for him [as a] person,” he said. “I have always behaved positively. But if someone asks me about him, whether he is a good coach, I’d say no.”

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama spoke with captain Asamoah Gyan on the telephone to resolve a dispute over player bonuses ahead of the Portugal match, with $3m in cash flown to Brazil on a private jet. However, Boateng claimed that was only the tip of the iceberg in terms of issues that dogged the squad.

He said: “That was the smallest problem. Everything had accumulated over a month. It was pure disaster. Poor training conditions and sleep options, I just wonder where all the money was flowing too.

“The association get so much money from sponsors and Fifa - it was certainly not used for hotels, flights, the team and the preparation.”

Boateng also insisted that there was a lack of team spirit among the squad in direct contrast to the last World Cup in South Africa, when Ghana came within a missed penalty of becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-final.

“We were not a real team. Everyone was busy with themselves,” he said.

“There were two or three players who were just glad Sulley Muntari and I were suspended. They said it to my face. We all know that I have never insulted the coach. Nevertheless, they have turned the manager against Sulley and me. I am very calm and relaxed, because I definitely know that I did no such thing.

“I have represented my opinion. There was no player who was happy. We had 100 meetings with the delegation. We told them that we need tens of change things. because of this I am an easy victim.”

This greed is so offensive to me prsonally as an African.This is an outrageous blot on our International reputation.
As a note to the players,there are other and better ways to resolve issues,instead of behaving like Muntari did.
Although,I do acknowledge the frustrations of the players,it is quite embarrasing for me as a Ghanaian
to read about the fight that ensued.

And,as for our Corrupt Officials,I think they should all be fired for their actions....especially,in view of their actions that the world is watching,we need qualified people with intergrity to manage our Black Stars.
I have always maintained that Corruption appears to be the omly Institution that works in Ghana and Africa.....

These players receive this amount every 2 weeks.They are not poor. So if payment is delayed even for a year it can't affect them. many workers work for a year before getting a salary. Apart from stephen Adams the rest take this money as dessert so why slap somebody who is trying to point out that your demand to be paid in cash before you play was unreasonable. Not only did we embarrass ourselves as a country very PUBLICLY and on a GLOBAL stage. All because players wanted to be paid before going on to lose and end up last in the group.

Since when did KPB become concerned with corruption in the GFA? Only when it affected his comfort and finances. RUBBISH. If KP really cared about corruption in the GFA, I don't see how destabilizing the team in Brazil this year will change anything. Were he and Muntari not present in South Africa? And Muntari in Germany? When did the corruption start to affect them??

Please note - ONLY WHEN THEY WEREN'T PAID. We have true corruption fighters and they are certainly not these lone rangers in the Black Stars who have been employed to play football and not to insult and beat up management.

Our Achilles'heel against US was Boye and the attempt to shift blame to Kwarasey's language barrier was preposterous. I'm incline to belief that, that same justification was invoke to send Schlupp packing while Adomah stays even after loosing Akaminko to injury. A friend of mine suggested we should have sponsored the local Black Star instead of the 70 (wokyendi)badluck management team. The way we approached this WC from management point of view was a flaw, even though we had one of the most talented playing squad at the tournament. what a waste!!!

Ayews: Andre Ayew Started the whole process by refusing to play for Ghana either by not being given the captainship and his brother Jordan also refusing to play for Ghana unless being guaranteed his position when he knows very well that he was not a BS material. We know the outcome now.

Mumtari had had many problems. Even in 2010 Milo refused to select him until pressure from all angles made it possible for him to be included. In 2014 I know Muntari had changed only to be influenced by KPB and Essien - the two who wanted to use the WC to relaunch their career. I do understand why Muntari cried when given the sack. He allowed himself to be influenced by the snake under the grass Essien and KPB.

Essien: Essien decided to absent himself from the BS for reasons known to himself. He is not patriotic. In Angola he seems not be concerned even when Dede scored a goal. He repeated similar issue when he turned his back against the field when he was substituted whilst his colleagues were seriously playing. He is out of form and wanted to use the WC to relaunch his career but was pissed off when he was not fielded in any of the games. As such he really welcomed the players agitation and was one of the architect.

KPB: As for this guy the least said about him the better. He never loved Ghana and had always wanted to use Ghana to relaunch his career. He has behavioral problems and Germany would never had invited him had he decided to play for Germany. He refuses BS invitation and only poked his head when he saw that Ghana has qualified.
He had done it on two occasions. He and Essien were the architect. They staged the plan when both of them refused the BS call to be in Accra. KPB actually oiled the crisis when he was not fielded in the Ghana/USA game.
Can he ever question his club coach. Why was he sold out of Milan. Questionable character indeed and I blame Nyantakyi for his inclusion.
I can go on and on.

So you see some of us are not surprised when these guys formed a group to destroy the team.
Now Ghana team if care is not taken will be in a situation similar to 1992 group where we had Abedi faction and Yeboah faction and BS went into the doldrum for a long time.
The team must be disbanded now.

Indiscipline must be stamped out just as corruption must be routed. There are many problems in this world but appropriate solution must be put in place to solve it. It just that Muntari went too far in confronting the problem. "The fact that we have a good HAMMER does not mean that every problem if is a NAIL" (Obama)

With all what happened in the Black Stars camp in Brazil and their subsequent elimination from the tournament, the government of Ghana should have sacked some of the GFA staff, but that will result in FIFA placing a ban on Ghana football. I really don't know how FIFA got their powers from (including the power to immune corrupt individuals of FIFA and FAs) . Part of it might be that there is no any other body that organizes football apart from FIFA. For example, in boxing where there are three international organizations that oversee boxing, none of the three organizations can decide to operate on laws that are not favorable to their boxers, because disenfranchised boxers will simply abandon that organization and move on. So is the case with wrestling and most other sports. In my opinion, it about time the world came together to strip FIFA off some of its powers or set up an additional body that will compete with FIFA.

I am sure that the two players who have been suspended acted out their anger against the mismanagement. There are a lot of things we do not know. As sad as it was that the players money had to be brought in by airplane and then to have to pay a tax imposed by Brazil, it was probably the best thing. As these guys would probably not seen their money or not receive all that was due to them due to the corruption. I am sure this has happen in the past. These young men worked hard and they have families to support. Money is part of the World Cup excitement, but not all. Whatever is due to them should be honored just like all of the other players from around the world!!!
