For Ghana to ever win an African cup again, we need a mentality overhaul. Anybody who has closely observed the Black Stars since 1992 will observe that we have the skills to play football but we lack the mental strength to win a cup. We start tournaments on a high note very determined and vowing to win the ultimate but it takes just a petty incident to throw the Black Stars camp into total irrepairable confusion.
Even a minor issue like who should be the captain is handled like that is all footballing is about. Some players feel they are bigger than other players while a few of them feel the coach should be scared of them such that he cannot bench them and if they start the match, they shoukd not be substituted. Laughably, as claimed by our former Serbian coach, some of the players even apply "juju" against one another, (whatever that means). In short, the players are not playing to win or excel as a team but rather to win or excel individually.
Surprisingly, we have a management that prefers to close their eyes on all the many problems in camp but by sheer propaganda would make us believe that, all is great in camp. They are not interested in solving the real problems.
It is therefore surprising that Gyan who was the captain during the Stars' shameful outing in Brazil, instead of him being sober, has already started indicating determination to win an African cup. After the last match against Portugal in Brazil, what Gyan said was, ''we blew it''. One wonders if he has identified the reasons why we blew it and has already solved the problems. It takes more than determination to to win a cup.

The Ghana Football Association's attention has been drawn to a report by Joy FM news report on Tuesday evening claiming that there is a player revolt at the Black Stars World Cup camp in Brazil.

We wish to state emphatically that the report is absolutely false and has no basis in fact.

There is no player revolt against the coach of Black Stars and no player or players have been involved in any mutiny in the wake of the 2-1 defeat to the United States.

All the 23 players were present at training on Tuesday afternoon under the guidance of coach Kwesi Appiah.

According to the report by Joy FM, a scheduled press conference was cancelled 'due to what is reported to be a case of player revolt.'

We wish to state that this report by Joy FM is totally untrue. The press conference which was scheduled to take place at 11am Brazil time to be addressed by management and not players, contrary to the report. It was rescheduled to 4:30pm because the squad only arrived in Maceio from Natal at 3am.

Meanwhile, the Joy FM reporter in Maceio, Tony Bebli vehemently denied ever filing the report when he was confronted by Black Stars management and captain Asamoah Gyan.

We wish to assure Ghanaians that coach Kwesi Appiah and all his players have shifted their focus to the match against Germany on Saturday, and are keen on winning the match to revive the Black Stars chances of progressing to the knock out stage of the competition.
