Nothing but good can come from a slippery tongue. You know so little about sports. Ghana sends young athletes to the biggest stage they had yet encountered. Some of them underperformed others did very well. How is that messing up? After fools like you beating up the athletes during commonwealth games, these athletes came out of commonwealth with a bang and have chalked up significant success for their level of development. For their ages and level of development, medals at Africa and Youth olympics are SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS.

As for Owusu and Dodoo, God bless them. But i also know for a fact that so many many others are helping both in Ghana and outside of Ghana.

Ghana’s preparation to the recently completed Commonwealth Games was atrocious. Media reports were that the Ghanaian contingent to the games competed in wretched jerseys and once again money became an issue. The mark of a successful and budding program is the ability to have its athletes make it out of the qualifying rounds? How many t&f athletes accomplished this at the youth games? For t&f to improve in Ghana, GAA will have to revamp its organization, athletes selection process, training, etc.

Let’s examine your choice of words because they suggest you know the truth about the progress GAA is making. GLOATING suggests “excessive emphasis on one’s success”. You and I may disagree on if my article reflects excessive emphasis on success but, your choice of words clearly indicate you see what is happening as “success” even as you continue to bash GAA with unsubstantiated accusations. It ok to say that “GAA is making some progress” i.e., what I tried to do in the article.

It is because of critics like you that i wrote the piece. You throw charges around such as “Media reports were that the Ghanaian contingent to the games competed in wretched jerseys” without any evidence. Why don't you ask the athletes who were there about uniforms?

The physical evidence [photos], publicly available online, indicates you are lying and hiding behind “media reports” to level unwarranted accusations. A simple visit to GAA's Facebook page would have given an idea of what our athletes competed for commonwealth games and African Champs.

For Martha Bissah at the Youth Olympics, her luggage did not arrive with her to China. GAA is again being lambasted about uniforms but Martha herself says she had 2 sets of uniforms in her luggage. Try finding replacement uniforms for an athlete who wears “EXTRA SMALL” at the last minute. My point is, talk to the athletes themselves to get full context before you assume/level charges of incompetence.

You are clueless and seriously out of touch with the reality on the ground.
1) Ghana sent 2 athletes to the Youth Olympics. Both made the finals in their respective events; 800m and Triple Jump. One won gold. Does that sound like failure to you or a faltering program?
2) Name a single news report about athletes (track and field) complaining about money at the commonwealth games and African championships. You will find “0”. Even though the NSA tried to sabotage athletics by not approving the budget for 2014 African Champs, our athletes and officials collectively agreed to not let it distract them from the task at hand. GAA fully intends to fight for what is due them but again, name one athlete or article that talks about track and field athletes complaining about money. FYI, I was on the ground.
3)Let’s talk about selection. Please tell Ghanaians how you would PRACTICALLY select athletes for national teams. Tell us how you would institute a better selection policy different from the current GAA policy based on qualification standards. Have you bothered to check how many countries use a similar policy such as that used by GAA? Have you bothered to even read the document? What exactly is wrong with it? Or you would prefer we return to the good old days to favoritism and “bomb” throwing; female athletes having to sleep with coaches just to make the team; athletes coughing up some of their per diem to coaches or risk not getting selected? How about the days when national team rosters were padded with visa connection ghosts?
4) Training: please enlighten us about how you would do things different. Don’t give a utopian/ideal situation. Tell us how, given the reality of fiscal constraints that all national sporting associations in Ghana have to deal with, you will implement a system different from that of GAA. Please make reference to the REAL on- the ground changes, as indicated in my article, and then tell us how you would do it different.

Dead programs do not miraculously start to birth success. Success does not happen in a vacuum. We would have seen the like of Bissah, Nyamadi, Amponsah, Ampomah, Dadzie, Eke etc. in the years between 2002 and 2010.

Honestly, I think your problem is having to give GAA a little bit of credit. The green shoots [success] we are witnessing does not happen overnight. The underpinnings of the recent success of Ghana Athletics reflect athletes and supporting cast toiling away in the dark; unsung heroes and heroines who stepped up at bleak times; strangers willing to lend a hand and MONEY during crisis and, the willingness to fight for Ghana even when they [athletes] were under attack from within.

Martha’s triumph best symbolizes the rocky and punishing road to success that great athletes often have to travel. She was eliminated in the heats at the Commonwealth Games; they called her a failure!!! She was eliminated in the heats at African Championships; they said we told you!!! Yet, she was not discouraged knowing full well her time would come when she had a chance to step back down and compete against athletes who were are the same level of development. And when her time came, she made history”. Let us all celebrate with her.

All I am trying to do is ask you to stop trivializing what GAA is doing. Seems you can’t help yourself.

You couldn't even admit you were wrong about "wretched jerseys" after others posted video evidence to the contrary.

It is pathetic that you want to describe Martha's success as something that would have happened anyway. Her exploits did not occur by chance under Prof Dodoo's watch. The youngest team ever presented by Ghana at an African Champs did not get the 2nd most medals in Ghana’s history by chance. A feat accomplished despite the fact that one of our biggest hopefuls, Janet Amponsah, was injured.

If you ever get the privilege to chat with martha bissah in private, ask her if beyond her coach and guardian, GAA in anyway "helped" make her success possible. Perhaps, she will be kind enough to let you know about some of the inside "drama" i.e., ups and downs, that are often left out of post victory write-ups.

Then again, even if Martha gave you the privilege, you will chalk it up to chance; something you seem to know so much about.

Can we not look at things and judge them based on the facts? Our own boys, girls, men and women and they went after them like they were the enemy. I think there are things GAA can improve on but i am not blind to the significant progress they have quietly been making. The so called experts (i thought they were) told the world about useless GAA leadership. Boy were they wrong. The prof dodoou guy may not be the chummy type but I WILL TAKE THAT ANY DAY IF HE CAN GIVE US RESULTS.

Your problem is that you think you know it all but you don't. Now of us knows it all but, some of us have taken the time to pay attention to the nuances when making a case.

Take for example the your comment about learning from Nigeria. Nigeria's history is littered to mothers and fathers who competed as juniors. Let me share a piece of inside info with you. Nigeria's commonwealth games long jump champion who competed at the 2014 world junior championships is a 2nd year university student in NGR. Martha is a secondary school student. So who should be learning from who?

The problem is that he doesn't even bother to find out whether his hunch is correct. He is so full of hatred that he has to damn somebody because a young Ghanaian girl succeeded. So please give this father figure the necessary respect and what's due him since he's catered for these kids to be stars and all of a sudden here comes Francis and Andrew owusu trying to take the glory form the individual that has been nursing these kids. Sorry people that's not how it works. So if Martha hasb't won the gold like all the other competitions she did run no praises will be sung to her. Stop taking glory for what you don't deserve.
