Yes Frimpong if these rituals are the way to go then I think those who went to Senchi to give recommendations to the Government on the economy failed to add "Rituals and Sika Duro" to the list.

The fu***** thieves and incompetent people in charge of the GFA have done nothing, absolutely nothing to promote and encourage the growth and viability of the local league. Just look around at the medieval sports stadia across the country and you will get an idea of what GHana football has achieved under their watch. The GFA officials, led by the corrupt Nyantakye are only interested in following the Black Stars around the globe because that is where the money is. They have done nothing to promote the local game!!!

Well said Papadoc. You have said it all. We have a bunch of corrupt, unpatriotic GFA thugs ruining the local league. Until we find a way to change the entire GFA, the local leagues will not thrive. It will take a collaborative effort between the GFA, the Ghanaian media, the Ministry of Sports, and Ghanaian football supporters to bring back the local leagues. The sports media cannot do this by themselves.

Kessey, it is preposterous pick one group and literally tear into it for the poor fortunes of the Ghana Football League. There must be equity in your blame. Others deserve as much criticism as the Sports writers. Assail the government, the GFA, the football teams and above all, tear Ghanaian soccer fans into pieces for abandoning their own local league in favor of European Leagues...times have changed considerably....the GFL in the 80s was in a class by itself...the players were strong, sturdy and physically fit....they were the embodiment of what passes today as the macho-man....remember the late Emmanuel Quarshie, Willy Klotsei, Isaac Acquaye, Douglas Tagoe, Nlai Mahama, Farouk Umar, Razak, Polo, Anas, Awuley Quaye, Kwabena Asiedu and the rest of those gallant and beautiful players who entertained and left us with sweet memories?
The current GFL is a pale shadow of what we enjoyed in the 80s.... the players are badly malnourished, they are not physical specimens like their predecessors and they are consumed with wealth......
All told, the demise of the local league if it happens eventually, would be attributable to several factors.....the whole nation should bear that responsibility and not only sports writers who are poorly paid and don't really care one way or the other if the League survives or fades into oblivion.....

Barimah Yaw,
well said as you've made my day my brother. At times I wonder what's wrong with most of our sports journalists utterances on various radio stations and their publications in sports tabloids.
Instead of concentrating on our local clubs issues to make our league attractive and promote foreign investments and sponsorships deals they mainly centered on foreign ones. They only spend about 1/4 of the allocated time(just tits-bits) on our local league issues and the rest (3/4) on foreign mainly European leagues such us the English Premiership, German Bundesliga, Italian Seria A and the Spanish La Liga issues.
In essence, they discuss and know more about burning foreign clubs issues, profiles of their players in various teams than that of our local league clubs. In a way I don't actually blamed them for the following personal reasons:
A) Inadequate training: Gone are the days whereby Kwabena Yeboah who acquired adequate journalistic training used to promote our league both in tabloids and on air. He was so marvellous and fantastic.
Whereas most of present so call "sports journalists" had little/minimal training from various unrecognised road side journalist training schools. At times one wonders whilst listening to their commentaries as a mere joke and very shameful with their comments.
In the olden days some great journalist like Danso Abebrese, Amamoh Kakra and Oquaye Jyagadu were mainly local newscasters but interms of sports commentaries, they were absolutely far better than current self acclaimed sports journalist who has already nailed "the coffin of our local league rather than "nailing it"
2)Club allegiance:
Most current sports journalists will publish false report about the local clubs he/she supports or been allegiant to and biased against the other club whilst commentating a match between the two teams. This will definitely makes our league unattractive to others. Example a sport journalist who support Kumasi Asante Kotoko will always publish false information against Accra Hearts of Oaks and the vice versa.
It seems I have briefly narrated little piece about out journalist what about the local supporters in our clubs. What are their roles to promote our league?.
Gone are the days whereby supporters can't wait to go clubs training grounds to watch how their team trained. Not forgetting to rush early to the stadium to cheer on match days in order to win. I quite remember been a regular attendee at Cricket grounds (Manhyia) on Tuesdays till Thursday evenings to watch Kotoko training and familiarised myself with the players.
Come Sunday morning as early as 09:00hrs with my friends happily trekking from Asawasi (D- Line) to Krofrom Bediem Park (charcoal grounds) to watch Santos, Hafia, and Kotoko (the time of Kutiri Agontari, Sampene and Goalkepper Alhaji). Come afternoon trot down to Ahenfie to watch King Faisal, Envoys, Karum Stars before ran off to Kumasi Sports Stadium to watch Kotoko match with full support with the stadium fully packed with all wearing red T- shirts.
What about now, I recently visited Ghana from London and was so eager to go and King Faisal's match at Baba Yara. In fact I felt very disappointed and heart broken with the number of supporters at the stadium. (only handful). I hardly saw King Faisal supporters wearing their club kits to cheer and inspired their team. Most were wearing foreign (European clubs) clubs kits. How can such things promote our local league?. Totally impossible.
The onus is not only on sports journalists as per se but rather on various local clubs supporters to contribute to develop our league to make it one of the best not only in the continent but worldwide.
Thanks so much my brother Yaw Bekoe Kessey for your wonderful article.
God bless Ghana
