If Kwesi Appiah were to go for this Zamalek job it would be a climb-down. It will not be good for his future career as a top-notch professional coach. He should not accept it for the simple reason that it would make him appear to be a desperate scrounger and definitely lower his prestige and status. From a two-time World Cup coach of the famous Black Stars to Zamalek? No way! It doesnt gel.

It is not that Zamalek is not worth the offer but the truth, which has fallen on the blind side of Ghanaians is that, Kwesi Appiah is today, as we speak, one of the best coaches in the world. Because we Africans are generally unable to see things in the right perspective or we are naturally inclined to look down upon ourselves, we have not been able to see the true value of Kwesi Appiah.

How many football coaches in the world have been able to reach the high level of the World Cup on two successive occasions, if at all? The fact that his Black Stars team were the only team that almost beat the German team, or, at the very least, drew with the German team that beat the once invincible Brazilian team 7-1 and went on to win the World Cup, is sufficient proof of his outstanding ability. Had it not been for for extreme player indiscipline, he would have achieved greater feats.

If Kwesi Appiah can bid his time, we will all be witness to the fact that some high profile team in world soccer will definitely take him on.

That does not mean that he should sit there with his arms folded and wait for an offer to drop in his laps. He should contact the right people - the people who matter in world soccer who he may have interacted with in the past, and make himself relevant and available for a good prestigious job as a coach. This will not only be good for himself, but it will also be good for Ghana and Africa.

In many more ways than one, it was a disastrous move by the GFA to dispense with his services. The GFA will live to regret it. And mark my word, that decision is what will mar Nyantakyis bid to move on to an executive position in CAF or FIFA.

Yes we wish him all the best, but the reality is that I do not see Appiah succeeding with Zamalek. I hope he proves me wrong but I doubt that he will last 6 months in Egypt. He is simply not a good coach.
