Black Meteors fail to qualify for 2016 Olympic games after away loss to Congo

Date: 31-May-2015

The National U-23 side, Black Meteors have failed to qualify to the final stage of the 2016 Olympic qualifiers after losing 5-4 on penalties to Congo in Brazzaville.

The Congolese scored a lone goal courtesy Sylvere Ganvoula to cancel out Enoch Ebo Andoh's goal for Ghana in the first leg played at the Accra Stadium last weekend.

And after Ghana's inability to find an equalizer that would have seen them through to the next stage, the game went into penalty shootouts.

The Black Meteors however ended their Olympic dream after missing one penalty kick as their opponents converted all five kicks.

Congo therefore qualifies to the final stage of the Rio 2016 qualifiers and will face Nigeria's Dream Team.

This particular squad didn't have any players who play with the senior team. I even advised Tetteh should allow aboagye, Yeboah etc to play with the bstar in friendly games. You know to up their confidence. But Tetteh didn't listen. This mali team even had players from their senior team. No wonder mali looked so disciplined. Tetteh, no more under 20 for you. Give him a female team to coach.

Take a look at the Nigerian team. Iheanacho is their key player but he was replaced with Sokari when he couldn't leave up to standard. Yet they still had faith in their main striker (Awoniyi) & it paid off.

It's about time we started to question Coach Tetteh's competency as a coach. He used to be very good but seems to have outlived his usefulness. I'm sure you're one of those who kicked against adding Coach Grant to the technical bench. He'd have been immensely useful but some of you can't think and just spew out nonsensical conspiracy theories because you have a cell phone.

The Malians quick and two to three man tackling of the Ghanian players unsettled the team and hence disrupting their style of play. The Austrians used the same strategy to frustrate them as well as the Argentinians to some extent.

The Ghanians players rushed on the Mailans but the stop to keep them time to effectively pass the balls while the Malians were disrupting their style of play with quick tackling by multiple players.

I understand this is the style of play for Ghanian soccer; that is waiting for our openents to make a mistake in their passes but we must learn to unsettle our oppenents with quick tackling. The Malian technical team picked clues from Ghana's matches with Austria and Argentina and came up with a better strategy against Ghana.

Ghana lost out of this competition right from the African championship, the fail to put in a good standard and quality of play. the same Mali defeated Ghana in the group stage, while Ghana did same in the third place match. to me mali are deserve to progress cause the team has quality and character of play. they out played the Ghanaians for the 90 minute durations. if Nigeria beat Germany then African has a semi final ticket from either mali or 9ja has both teams will meet each other for a slot. then Senegal should outplayed their opponent and progress an African affairs in the final wont be bad. am just analysing or better still you can call it fantasy in ur opinion. but in football anything is possible. mali just proved it today.

Sellas Tetteh had no clue how to get the boys back into the game. All he did was stand at the touchline and watch the team being humiliated. Looking at the game between Serbia and Hungary, one could see how a coach is technically upright. Sellas Tetteh is technically bankrupt. He is just a lucky coach and that is how come he's been winning matches, but nobody can convince me that he is a tactician or a good coach. USELESS COACH!!!! All being paid with the taxpayers money.

If we cannot elevate the game at the colts level, how can we produce players for the various levels to represent AMA GHANA. Most of our professional players are not doing well in their various clubs. Either they are old and have pass their prime or their not matured for prime time. Either way, Ghana is losing.

Coach Silas Tetteh, although has won the U-20 WC in Egypt, recent his performance with our team shows he has to redefine his coaching techniques else he'll have to pave way for another person with latest coaching techniques in the game. What baffles me is that the Malian wall pass technique isn't anything new; our coach ought to adopt and refine it rather than attempting to use the European style of play. It's simply unbelievable to see Ghana crash out of the competition. It wasn't complacency; the Malians simply did their homework well and made light work of our U-20 team. It's unbelievable; it's unacceptable too!
