If the story is true, then it shows how little-minded the man of God is. There is nothing wrong in praying for your team to win because we can send everything to God in prayer. However if your team finally loses, a wise believer would know that God has given him NO for an answer and he/she woukd be at peace with this.
Even an ordinary person knows that, in a game like football, it is the better team (with better players) that must win. Accordingly the outstanding players who help their teams to win are admired and adored and not cursed. For anyone, let alone, a man of God to hate an excellent player to the extent of wanting to curse him is devilish and shameful.
Here in Ghana, we are very naïve about cursing. The moment someone hurts your feelings and gets you angry, we stupidly assume the position of a deity or a superman and pronounce curses on them. If we knew how much damage we do to ourselves by cursing (or wishing evil for) others particularly those who are being blessed by the Almighty God Himself, we would be wise.
Finally, I wish the story in thus report is untrue because I don't expect a man of God to be such a fanatic of football as if that is where the salvation of his followers lies.

The message he is preaching here is that you cannot simply use a game of football to judge the heart of a man. If you read it well Asamoah Gyan gave more but he spoke of Eto'o right in his presence.
