  They played him at the left wing instead of left back. He has demonstrated in the past that he can score. He is a bit of strange player who is not highly skilled but knows how to get the job done wherever you put him. Should he be a forward for the Black Stars?? It might be worth looking into.

  1 & 2 is subjective : the very reason why Coaches may chose different players for different games.

  It is the job of the coach to fashion out a system and fit in the players. The boy is strong and should be played at left back. Modern football is tactical and skill is just an added impetus.
