Black stars coach in 2010 identified ghana's full backs as our major weakness defensively. he therefore strategised by putting ayew and k. asamoah at both flanks and trained them to drop back to help defensively. these 2 players were playing more offensively with marsielle n juventus. he also converted kevin boateng into a central midfielder(8) n brought his tackling game to fore at a time he was known to be a flashy but non tackling winger at portmouths

Ayew can score goals mostly on set pieces, can defend and attack. He carries a team on his shoulder. That is why he was able to win under 20 world cup as captain. This is voluntory expertise. You might not like it Gyan or Appiah, but Ayew can become greater than you guys with the right support from equally dedicated players.
