Am an Akan having attended so many funerals, two of which involved my parents.(May they rest in peace)

A funeral of this magnitude, one that had something to do with one of the richest figures in the country.
One, who happens to be a full born and bred Kwahu native. An Akan.
One, whose demise was greatly felt by Manhyia, the heart of the Ashanti kingdom.

Heartrendingly, It is sad to observe that, the aspect of the Akan culture that deals with the departed souls, i.e. sons and daughters, young and the old, have been infiltrated by foreign cultures that hopelessly refuse to identify the Akan from other tribes when it comes to funeral celebrations.

When you critically look at the accompanied photo of the mourners above, one can hardly say whether or not the chief mourners are Akans.

As you and I know, culture is very dynamic and the old order is giving way to the new.
As we enter the '22nd' century, there would be changes here and there to meet the modern standard of living- A way of life that would inculcate modernization. A clear distinction to be drawn between the "Ab33fo and Bagyimibr3" era.

But then, the aspect of our culture that portrays the "Real People" viz-avis, the identity of the people in the area of birth and death must be strictly and religiously upheld.

In birth, marriages and in death, the traditional costume have always been worn, wrapped up or cladded.

Shamefully, the Batakari and Agbada, the whiteman's suits being displayed here as the photos suggest, is slowly but surely becoming a norm for 'Akrakyefo and Nwurabafo at most gatherings during solemn moments and are very appalling to our dignity as it doesn't reveal the true us.We become a 'second rate citizen' of our dear Ghana.
Its a shame on the mess!!
