How else do we accept a coach who spends over 90%of his time in Europe even during premier league season under the pretext of scouting? All the European leagues can be watched on the internet for less than 0.00005% of how much it cost to "scout" in Europe.Can you even imagine how the self disrespecting Ghanaians would do if it had been Appiah "scouting" in Europe as Grant does? Do you know how much this costs? over $1m probably? Everyone loves their football and Ghana is proud of the Balc stars. A national football team is very important to the nation and to unity. BUT,because it is so valuable on level that can't be measured in monetary terms alone, there needs to be a really good managment system and every penny accounted for and every penny counts. And the players, knowing that they are so important to the nation, and are being well managed, will have more ride and sense of responsibility.Think about it, if you work for a boss that is shoddy and that you don't respect, you can't respect your work. So the Minister should insist on smartening up the GFA, make it more professional and accountable and getting a national team coach in place that is REALLY committed to the nation not just in it for the money. I don't know if Avram Grant is that man but I bet you the layers don't really rate him much. He doesn't seem to be very inspiring? Good luck to the Black Stars and hope they do well but given the amount of money that is spent on the black stars year in and year out and all the tournaments and matches and away games and all the rest of it that they get supported for, there needs to be a real accounting of what's going on? why have thy not won any cups for 32 years?

But the GOVERNEMENT can and should write a robust letter to the FIFA or any of the other International Federaations and remind them that the country is a sovereignn country and that the game of footbaLL is very important to the nation for nation building, unity etc and therefore, as a sovereign nation, they feel obliged to look into some irregular practices which they feel is underminining the sport and their soverignity and the welfare of the flag afor the good of the people. In other words, don't let FIFA off the hook. They can't sit on the fence and then always come down on the side of rogue Federations and not allow the governments and Ministers to step in. That's why FIFA itself got into so much trouble. Sports Federations have basically created a ssytem which is vulnerable to corruption becdause the whoe system is set up whereby no national federation or Olympic committee is actually responsible to anyone in actual fact and they can keep dodging bullets till kingdome come. For |Africa this is a problem because it creates a vulnerability and that's why sports do not thrive and develop on the continent and in developing countries. I'm talking about all sports not just football.

I think the Ghanaian people, no matter how much they may love their football, would rather have a complete clear out and clean and transparent system and not be held hostage by the management of the football team and the GFA. It's just wrong. It's good to make money, nothing wrong with that, but the GFA should go out and hustle and make money and the pbeter their players perform the more they can get sponsors and gate money but this way, the government is being forced to reward the the management for failing!

I think the media should start being more robust and taking a position to demand from the government that they step in to clean up GFA and approach FIFA that way.FIFA can and will respond appropriately if proper protocols and procedures are followede. As will all other international Federations where there is cause for the Minister of Youth to write to the International Federaations and tell them that they have a problem with the local federation and need to address the local federation management and Presidency. Same with GOC. If ghana wants to improve its sports performance and get more bang for its buck, since it's already spending millions of dollars on sport but none of it is being managed properly, they have to review the situation and agree the strategy and appproach the relevant Internatinoal Federations with a consistent positin. They have a right to. Ghana is a sovereign country and it is a beacon of progress and transparency particularly in Africa. The transparency indicators are very positive for Ghana and the Government can say that in fact it is because it is improving accountability and transparency that they must tackle the problems in the sports sector. They will be applauded for it and in fact supported for it because every federation knows there are problems in the sports sector in Africa and they are sick and tired of it and want to tackle it too but the impetus has to come fromt he Government in a consistent way with a proper plan.
