These players will never understand that that playing for Ghana is not the place to make money. Playing for the nation is a national service, and they should settle for no more than HONORARIA. They are not mercenaries being hired to play for Ghana – that is why they have treated as national heroes. Any player who cannot play for Ghana for the love of the country has no business being on the Black Stars roster. Any player who has no reason to wear the national jersey except for dollars should not be on the team. What happened to patriotism?!

As professional players the place to earn real income is with their various teams. Many professional players in Europe with whom Ghanaian players play side by side and earn similar pay actually donate their earnings from national duties to charity – to emphasize that they are not playing for their country for the money.

By the way, there have even bigger benefits beyond the idea of honoraria – playing for Ghana provides them platforms to showcase themselves and raise their professional market value.
