When you look at games we played vs Egypt and Cameroun, they used experience players to win against us. Why can't we eat our pride and bring back experience players that can help heal our wounds. Indeed it's true, GFA need to be fired including all Journalist that do not want to see those players come on
board.
Why did Kwadwo Asamoah refused to play this time. It's not because he was injured nor retired from the National team. He just did not want to waste his time with a loosing team. Until those bad boys are called to play, we will continue to suffer heartache or death.

The Case for Black Stars Quotas
The calibre of scouts who attend a chan tournament are not the same as scouts who show up for an Afcon. Afcon has more publicity, more history, more media coverage, more sponsors, more prize money, more attention than chan. The level of competition at Afcon is fiercer than chan. Espn, Fox and most global media outlets provide Afcon coverages, and not chan. The Afcon winner plays in the confederation cup, which = more scouts, more competition, more attention, more media coverage. Afcon has more scouts, period. It should not take an astronaut or a neuro-scientist to determine this. Do u know why affirmative action and employment equity programs for women, minorities and disabled were approved especially in Western nations? Simply because of inequity, and extreme prejudicial treatment metted out against blacks and other marginalized groups. In gfa' case, they discriminate based on payola. This is no longer a secret. Most locally based players have the skill but lack the payola money. So we need the quota system to help level the playing field for local players and provide the much needed integrity to the Ghanaian premier league. Nyantakyi could care less if the local league truncates, 3nfa ne ho. This guy Nyantakyi must be arrested and dropped in the Atlantic Ocean. He is a menace to Ghana soccer. He has more shame. After 7 failed Afcon appearances? Payola, shortcuts has no value and yields nothing. Look, don't u think local players like donsu, frimpong@kotoko, some hearts oak defenders would have made their name at the just ended Afcon? Donsu was scoring classic freekicks in the african champs lg. Have you already forgotten? Did you see any foreign based bstar players scoring from set pieces at the just ended Afcon? We Ghanaians do not appreciate what we have, nor do we value what we have. This is what Nkrumah was trying to change. Look at how we have wasted money on foreign soccer coaches? For what? Would Canada hire a foreign hockey coach to train Team Canada? Would America hire a foreign basketball coach to coach team Usa? Even after Brasil were walloped 7nil by Germany. Why did they not employ the services of German tactician, you ask? It's called pride. That will never happen. Invest in your own coaches and have faith. Keep investing until u succeed. We invested in AA for over 6yrs. He wasn't what we hoped he would become but he made history by beating Egypt 6 to 1. He was the first Ghanaian coach to qualify Ghana to a world cup. He made history. Today, he is coaching a top club in Sudan. We invested in him. Why can't our gfa create a C. K Gyamfi coaching school. Invite the best coaches from Brasil, Germany, Holland, Mourinho, Ancelotti, Guardiola, Lowe etc to train or even offer speaking engagements to Ghanaian coaches. Success involves thinking far beyond what we are used to. Will Ghana benefit if we produce and export coaches? Ofcourse! How will that boost Ghana's gdp, you ask? Today, we spend our meagre hipc cedis on foreigners, for what? Then we neglect our pitches and stadiums expecting these foreigners to do miracles through foreign based and born players. Stubborn, confused and incredibly stupid gfa. If you say local players are not qualified to play for bstar then u are naive and ignorant. Ebenezer Assafuah, a former local player excelled at u20, signed with sion fc and now a bstar player. Those u20 boys who won the wcup with Sellas Tetteh were local players. After the wcup, Milo took them to the Afcon tournament and the Afcon final vs Egypt. So, if you tell me that local players can not deliver in a bstar jersey then u are a (....) Medase.

Thank you so much for this fantastic, revealing and thought provoking piece.I feel every bit of this article because I know what a true patriotism can do not only in football but in all fields for Ghana and Afrika. The current generation of footballers and sports administrators have wasted tremendous amount of resources and opportunities for nothing. They are the most under achieving generation in Ghanaian sporting history. We need total revolution in football and sports in Ghana. We dont need foreign coaches, we dont need so called stars playing in England,Germany,France and what you.We dont need players who are arrogant and think that they are doing Ghana a favour by playing in the national team.We need a good local coach to build a new Black Stars with players from the local league and few extra committed and patriotic professionals .For one to be selected for the national team must demonstrate extreme dedication and patriotism.

Personally I don’t think the Black Stars need a foreign coach and secondly the bulk of the team should be from our local league; insanity is when you keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.
I don’t see the Stars winning a tournament with foreign-player domination.
I am sure the interest of our local league would grow if fans know they will be watching national team players in local league.
We have misappropriated scare resource and this hasn’t won us anything. The ingredient of winning is lacking, MIND SET.
By far the Black Stars are the most skilful bunch of a team but the mind set erases all the possible fulfilments.
God save us!!!!

Dominic oduro of Montreal impact should have been at the afcon. His club did well in mls. Instead he was overlooked and that fool grant calls accam and afful whose clubs did bad in mls. Other very good players like nii adjei, john antwi, Nana poku, frimpong of mazembe were all overlooked. Local players like donsu, blessing should all have gone to afcon but to satisfy payola and gfa agent players business. They relied on riff raffs. GFA officials benefitted and we the people lost.

Thanks to Mr Zaya Yeebo for this interesting look back at the history of Ghana football.
But I am surprised that he should treat in such a flippant manner, the
issue of whether Libya tried to bribe Ghana to lose the final match.
There was widespread speculation that
Gaddafi had promised to end the economic hardships in Ghana if we threw the match. Petrol rationing would end; provisions would be imported to fill the shelves of Libyan to be established in Ghana. Some Defence Committee and even PNDC members fought open battles about these issues. But Mr Yeebo skirts over it?
Come again, Mister! Who do you think you're protecting?Col Jalloud?

Great Piece Mr Zaya Yeebo. God bless You. This is the kind of Patriotic that the entire the rank and file of our National Team needed. Until this is obtained the AFCON cup will continue to elude us. I was young by then and I remember watching all the matches then (1982) on "BLACK & WHITE" Television. Players like John Essien aka ZION TRAIN was superb during that tornament. Those were the days when the late coach CK Gyamfi had difficulfty in selecting his first eleven. The midfield was chocked with fine form players like Albert Asaase and Adolf Armah which even made difficult for 17 year old Abedi Pele to get into the first eleven. Kwame Sampson and Sampson Lamptey also gave the late CK Gyamfi a headache as to who should be donning the No. 4 jersey. John Smith Bannerman as just switched from Eleven Wise to Kotoko but John Zion Train Essien from Hassacass was also good and both also made it difficult for CK Gyamfi as far as the No. 7 position was concern. We should revisit this era again, find out from those who made it back then ( Those alive) how they made happen, learn from them and I believe we as nation can make it.

Those were the very early days of the PNDC. The decision to take part in the competition was laudable and revolutionary. We stood up to a foreign power that wanted to use our beloved football to play its own brand of petty politics against Africans. So we went to Libya and won the cup. And what happened thereafter, you may ask? Following the events of June 30th, 1982, the real revolutionaries of the PNDC - Sgt Akata Pore, Chris Atim, Zaaya Zerbo etc- were purged from the government together with a host of other well-meaning, honest leaders from all across the regions. These were replaced with the same corrupt former army officers of the Acheampong era. The so-called PNDC revolution lasted for 6 months. It ended the night of 30th June, 1982. For the next 19 years, the country's politics became decidedly tribal. Our football followed the same destructive, corrupt path. Names like Alhaji Jawula, ET Mensah spring to mind. The most famous victim of the time was Shamo Quaye, whose death was never investigated. Officials ignored good players for mediocre ones who could pay. Officials 'sold' young, immature players to low-tier European clubs for any amount of money. Sport authorities could not be bothered. Consequently, the standard of football in the local league has fallen precipitously over the years and the trend still continues. The debacle of Brazil in 2014, presided over by John Mahama, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Kwasi Nyantakyi, was only the continuation of a long series of failures due to greed, corruption, incompetence and disorganization. We have been doing the same sort of things for so long and still expecting better results. The whole country cannot be insane!!

Ghana has got the people but nobody wants to work with us because we are too radical to accept the status quo.

Ghana football is suffering, and very massively but is being down played by all those corrupt elements. Until Nyantakyi and his gang of "mafiosos" who had kidnapped GFA for their personal well are kicked out, the problem will get worse. The problems became visible in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and now AFCOM. Money is the cause of all evil, though the same money solves all problems, but must be handled with caution. How come all the Ghana Premier League Clubs belong to members of the Ghana Football Association? That is the first point of Ghana's woes. I played in the GPL for Tema Hurricanes, Accra Great Olympics and to last Swedru All Blacks, and was Captain of Tema Textiles Manufacturing Company FC before my departure to study in Europe in 1974. In between my course of study, I took an extra course in Sports Management, but do not want to get involved in Ghana Football or any other country because am massively disappointed in the management of Ghana football. The only viable success in Ghana football for the past 20 years in my opinion are CORRUPTION & INSULTS. Until Ghana Sports (including football) is centralised, and specialist are assigned to the core events and talents developed, Football, the only surviving sports that Ghanaians currently have their hopes & joy will soon die out.

We had only 2 Professional players in the 82 squad, they were George Alhassan playing for Gabon 105 and Emmanuel Quarshie, the Captain, playing for Zamelek in Egypt.
I can say this was the strongest squad the Black Stars have ever produced. They also paved the way for Ghanaian players to become professionals and football Ambassadors all over the world.
They were very strong technically, from goalkeeper to the last man on the bench.George Alhassan became goal king in that tourney with 4 goals but then the likes of Quarshie,Opoku Afriyie,Opoku Nti were wonderful players. Then when you come to the wingers,Kofi Abbrey,Bannerman and Essien the zion train were the fastest and efficient Ghana has ever produced. These guys can score from any angle and also cross perfect balls to the goal mouth of the opposing team. This is what we call attacking game where every player can score a goal at anytime.
I'll not talk about the midfielders and defenders, they were simply the best.Just think about Abede Pele,Paha and Kwesi Appiah our former coach.Today,we don't have such talented players anymore that's why we are struggling.I think our problem is more technical than administration.Besides, our local league is so poor, the teams are only interested in tranfering players for dollars.Thank you.

Telling us that caf did not give Ghana price money for winning the cup in 1982? Zaya a tournament was held in Gadafi's almighty Libya, even if caf did not give price money to Ghana, do you think Gadafi will send the stars home without giving Ghana any price money for winning the cup? Don't throw dust into our eyes.
CROOKED JJ RAWLINGS WAS SUPPOSED TO LET THE PEOPLE OF GHANA KNOW ABOUT THE PRICE MONEY BUT WHAT HAPPENED, THE THEN SO CALLED PNDC GOVT KEPT MUTE ON IT TILL DATE. JJ CAME UP WITH PROBITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY BY THEN. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IF CROOKED JJ RAWLINGS HAS EVER ACCOUNTED TO THE PEOPLE OF GHANA DURING HIS ILLEGAL PNDC ERA?

God bless you ,Bro. That is an excellent piece of historical information for the young ones. In similar circumstances, when no one else or the team itself expected to reach far, 35 years down the line, Cameroun has won. This was to be our story in the 2010 AFCON when we took young players there and they reached the finals only to be undone by defensive naivete allowing Egypt to take it. All is not lost. We can still rebuild. But we must stop crucifying our players and targeting some of them unjustly at the least instance, especially when the same players have proven over and over again that they can, if helped, help the nation, win man of the match awards, carry the nation on their shoulders. It is worse when we do this kind of selective injustice - example: most of the players in the black stars spoil chances and can have bad days, but if someone people don't like for whatever reason they have fluffs one or two chances, like Jordan Ayew, the haters descend on him. Meanwhile those same haters will keep quiet and even praise the overall performance of their favorite players, like Atsu, who also spoils many many chances. All the players can make mistakes, so stop destroying the team by this kind of selective injustice - you will only end up promoting discord and selfishness in the team, because the much criticized player, if your negative criticism gets into his head, may not pass to your pampered player, for obvious reasons! Remember they are just human, and not angels. Stop destroying the black stars with your negative tribal politics. If Ghanaians had not destroyed the black stars with those same negative divisive politics, there was no way those divisions would have cropped into the 1990s group and deprived us of many titles. When Ghana won the fourth AFCON title, neither Egypt nor Cameroun was close to us. We stood alone. But now, because of our own divisive politics and hatred born of tribal sentiments, we managed to sabotage the best crop of players in modern times, in the 1990s, and it doesn't look like we have learned our lessons. I weep for Ghana each day! Our mentality is not right at all!

Mr. Zaya Yeebo is right. Is time to dismantle Gfa. Ghana needs more people like Baba Amando and Mr. Yeebo. Nyantakyi, Sannie Daara, and Afriyie these guys thinks every Ghanaian is stupid. They strongly believes that they are above everyone and the Law in the Country. Like Nyantakyi said, No one can get rid of him until he decides to leave. Whenever there is a call to get rid of Nyantakyi and his Gfa, suddenly, Sannie Daara, Afriyie, or one of Nyantakyi's paid fools journalists will appear and write a story to praise Nyantakyi that he is a messiah of Ghana football. Like Sheikh T. Sienu wrote. Or Sannie Daara will write something suddenly like our GPL is great and among the world best. Just to make them look innocent. This is how they play Ghanaians. They really believes Ghanaians are stupid. Many Ghanaians have had their hearts broken too often by these Nyantakyi and his Gfa greedy corrupt officials. How many times does this have to go on before our government steps in and say enough is enough. How can a few Gfa administration makes so many Ghanaians suffer . Even some of our foreign friends who also love our beloved Black Stars sometimes ask us Ghanaians living abroad that how come Ghana is good in Soccer but we never seems to win any trophies.lt is because of bad management. Is shameful. Every Coach Gfa has employed over the years, there have always been problems. What does that tells us? Gfa will often get rid of the Coach. Blame the Coach and the Sports Ministers for everything but never Nyantakyi and his Gfa. Well deserve players either don't get pick in the team.Or left on the bench. While Ghanaians are calling for fame, pride and trophies, Nyantakyi and his Gfa are only thinking of how much money they are going to make from the tornament payout.Plus the bribes they have taken along the way. Part of the reasons why they don't want Muntari and KPB back is that they can fill 2 more players and collect bribes. Has Muntari or KPB been given opportunity to tell their so called lack of respect side of their stories. Never. Because Nyantakyi Gfa don't want the truth to come out. In the Western Culture, when adults are speaking, a Child can ask questions or join in the conversation. lt is acceptable. But in Ghana, that Child will be seen as been disrespectful. If Gfa wants to invite Ghanaians Children that have been born overseas to join Black Stars team, then they must be flexible and understanding. Because what we may call in Ghana disrespectful is not disrespectful in these Children Culture. A lot of so call football stupid administraters or journalists who have never travel often write stories that make no sense about our Children born overseas. Get your facts right. And stop making fool of yourselfs. You're disgracing us. In conclusion, Ghana needs new GFA administrators and forget about Nyantakyi's Cocoa journalists who will often come out and write to support Nyantakyi and his Gfa. Everytime Ghanaians wants Gfa and Nyantakyi out of office this always happens. Who do Nyantakyi thinks he is fooling.
