Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has brushed off criticism following his move to ambitious Indonesian top-flight side Persib Bandung.

The 34-year-old, who has also played for Bastia, Lyon, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Panathinaikos during his illustrious career, has signed a one-year deal with the option of an extension.

Some have suggested the Ghana international thought about his wallet rather than his career when he decided to join the Asian club.

But the former Chelsea star is refusing to let comments of others to bring him down.

"I am here to play football. I know there were some criticism addressed to me. I think it's a natural thing," he said

"Criticism has always been there and I do not care.

" I will enjoy playing and achieving many things with this club.

"I came here Persib and I am very happy to be here."

He added: "I do not know much about football Indonesia, but I've had time to come here in 2013 for pre-season and we played against Indonesia . At that time we beat them 8-1. It became a new experience for me and I hope all goes well."
