Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Poku was on target as Miami FC lost to the New York Cosmos 3-1 in the in the opening day of the Fall season.
The attacking midfielder registered his fifth goal of the season, after he restored parity for his side after Eric Calvillo gave NYC the lead early in the second half.
New York Cosmos stumbled into a bit of luck in the 63rd minute when a Poku foul was called just inside the box for a penalty shot.
Cosmos winger Ayoze stepped up to the spot and hit the crossbar. Unfortunately for Miami, New York’s Eric Calvillo was quick on the rebound and put the Cosmos on the board.
The Miami FC wasted no time getting back in the match, finding the equalizer in the 69th minute. Super sub Ariel Martínez dribbled past multiple defenders before laying off a great pass to a streaking Poku.
Poku one-timed the pass and powered it into the back of the net.
However, Kwadwo Poku’s equalizer did little for the Florida based club as they succumbed to two late goals from Eric Calvillo and Kobi Moyal as the New York Cosmos secured all three points.
