Abraham Osei Bonsu (12-2-1, 10 KOs) defeated Felix Ajom (8-1-1, 7 KOs)
Abraham Osei Bonsu (12-2-1, 10 KOs) defeated Felix Ajom (8-1-1, 7 KOs) via a majority decision in their National super featherweight title clash on Saturday at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The clash between really lived up to the billing as supporters of the two pugilists came in their numbers to offer their support.
Ajom dominated the first two rounds as he worked behind his stiff jabs and also landed some telling punches.
Bonsu warmed himself into the fight in the third round – the diminutive boxer landed some cleans. Both boxers in the fourth round traded some punches but Bonsu was the better boxer.
In the fifth round, Ajom opened a cut beneath the left eye of Bonsu but the latter wasn’t perturbed about it as he fought on.
Bonsu in the sixth round began to worked the body of Ajom – he landed some clean shots to the head of Ajom, but the latter stood firm as he connected two quick uppercuts.
After the sixth round ended, heaven opened and the rain started pouring down, but the fight still continued.
Bonsu piled pressure on Ajom in the seventh and eighth round. Ajom kept his composure as he worked behind his stiff jabs.
In round nine, Bonsu went all gun blazing and sent Ajom crashing to the mat with a ferocious straight punch – Ajom would be beat the referee’s count.
The knock down angered Ajom, and he went straight at Bonsu in the tenth round – he landed some body shots.
Ajom started the eleventh round on a good note as he connected two quick hooks to the chin of Bonsu the latter pushed forward and also had his moment late in the round.
In the 12th round, the two boxers gave their all, but Bonsu was the aggressor. At the end of the fight, two judges scored it 117-114, 116-114 for Bonsu while one judge had it even 115-115.
The fans at the arena were waiting for the rest of the fights, but the CEO of HeMann Promotions, Heta Hemann went into the ring and announced that due to torrential rains in Accra the other fight has been postponed.
He added that new date for the other fights will be announced in the coming days.
Before Ajom – Bonsu fight, Ghana’s Wasiru Mohammed and Benin’s Nomibe Firmim opened the card.
Mohammed stopped Firmin in round 3 in their scheduled super bantamweight contest billed for six rounds.
